Idea: What I'd put on my own "ultimate classic edition" DVD

Here’s what I’d put on my own “ultimate classic edition” of the OOT:

Possibly this might not even all fit on a DVD-9.

  • 3 video tracks (angles) for Star Wars, and 2 for ESB and ROTJ.
This would comprise original or alternate crawl for Star Wars, plus standard or restored version on all (restored Star Wars would have the original crawl). The restored version would have cleaned up effects shots and mattes, but no major changes.

  • Softsub stream like ADigitalMan’s: caption or text. (Caption only for ESB.)

  • Original audio track if available (for Star Wars, at least the mono mix; if possible also the stereo and 6.0 mixes), plus 1985 and 1993 remixes.

  • Anamorphic format, 704x360 letterboxed to 720x480.

As Neil mentioned in another thread, "good luck in finding that one"!

Technically, the six-channel soundtrack was actually 4.2 - the surround channel was in mono and there were two LFE channels. Even if you could steal a 70mm film reel, the audio would need converting to 5.1 to be compatible with current home theater surround sound systems.
