I thought I’d start a thread for suggestions and ideas for altering specific aliens or species in the Star Wars universe.

Change their colour, change their voice, add more animation to specific parts of their face, make their hands look less like rubber, change their eyes etc.

Take a good hard look at those creatures from a thousand stars and think how they could be improved.

Video, audio and visual mock-ups most welcome.

Let’s go up to lab and see what’s on the slab.

To get the ball rolling how about a more toady/fishy Jar-Jar?

Jar-Jar The Amphibian

I think that Jar Jar should have more croc eyes, of horizontal blinking. As a reptilian like creature whos home world is underwater and he swims there then maybe he has more fish eyes. I prefer croc eyes.

This is my attempt, startin with your Bingowings, just added onto yours really lol. Added croc eyes and created a more fish like pattern to jar jar's skin.

That looks like he's dead and slowly decaying.

Which isn't unwelcome.

Gave boss nass the same Jar Jar treatment.

Think i mite have made him too dark oops lol

LOL! By the way, Bingowings, though I have nothing to contribute here, I love the idea of this thread.  It's fun to watch you continue to push the envelope with your ideas.

One of the things that gives Jar-Jar his cartoonish appearence (his voice and actions have been proved to be something that can be worked around) are things like his Bugs Bunny teeth and his bright colours.

We know he can exist underwater with as much ease as on land so giving him traditional toady colours and losing the teeth seemed to make sense.

Amphibians can come in a huge variety of hues but giving him bright colours makes him look clownish before he even does anything which spoils the small amount of comedy he should be allowed to get away with (after his worst excesses are trimmed away).

One design I wouldn't want to change much but instead add more movement to is the Quarren.

Warren the Quarren

He has the tentacles, the mandibles, an impressive brow, a squishy tongue and little cranial flanges.

However none of these seem to move much it would sell his general squidgy squidness more to put more motion in there.

His hands could do with a bit of a make over too (rubber gloves are good for washing up but they can limit the authentic organic nature of a beast).

The pale blue featureless eyes also look a bit fake, adding a pupil in there might improve an already nice design.

Ah crap. I was looking at this thread with lots of promsing ideas to come.

All we got is trolls darkening PT images!

That Rancor of yours is a good starting point. Then add Angels Pred-Rancor, and thats a REALLY good starting point.

Up the ante after them.

Im not a troll, i was redesignin the over look for Gungans, trying to make them look more fish/amphibian like. Im not just darkening PT images, im trying to give some PT creatures more of an interesting look. A troll indeed! pft! Ive been on this thread many many months and this is the first time ever ive been called a troll.

Indeed I'd love to see the various Jabba, Rancor and Sarlacc designs on other threads migrate over here too just to give people some inspiration but people without photo manipulation habits can just post descriptions of what they would like to see too.

Sometimes a few words can work better than a photoshop mockup.

Anything we come up with here could feed into the the other threads too so it could be a very useful point of focus.

Remember how effective Adywan's Cantina alterations were (and we know he has done similar work to some of the aliens in ESB, notably Yoda).

Sorry DuTwan, it wasnt directed at you, more so the pattern of the way of thinking this thread is taking, if you get my meaning. The word troll has stuck in my mind recently. That was an over-reacted term i used there. Appologies my friend.

I dont ever mean to knock any constructive efforts here at all, like EVER.

Really got to re-install CS3 urgently though!

"Come on shape it up guys!"

No name thowing in here please.

As penance Darth Solo, pick a creature that doesn't look quite as good as it should and describe how it could be improved (words or pictures), let's get this thread back on track.

You better watch yourself, I have the death sentence of 12 systems!

But on a serious note not worries my friend, so what does everyone think of the new green and patterned jar jar?

To be honest I think adding pattening to Jar-Jar is so complicated you might as well start from scratch.

Recolouring him is time consuming but possible if someone has the time and patience to do it but to add more pattern in a convincing way would require having the code for the actual digital model and altering it (unless he is chameleon like and the patterns would move across the surface of his body but even then it's a massive animating task).

Removing or altering his teeth is also time consuming but doable because he only opens his stupid mouth wide enough to see them in key scenes so going in and pulling them or the tongue may be achievable.

As for the mockups themselves, they don't seem to show what you say you are trying to do, they look like he has been hit by a bag of soot or has been singed in a fire. Keep experimenting and you may find something that takes you breath away and will wow us all in a similar fashion (try to take notes on what you do while you have fun playing around so you can replicate the process, you may accidentally create the most amazing transformation only to find you can't do it again, which would be a real pain) Tarpals comes off the best because you have applied the effect to a clearly defined area but perfoming this in motion would be almost impossible (but not entirely).

To alter skin patterns the few one step processes you can use are selectively adjusting sharpness or replacing or adjusting key colours once again this is time consuming (you can't do it as a batch process you'd have to apply it to every shot he is in and replace the original with your altered guy) but it could be done if you had the time and patience.

Thanx for the advice Bingowings, replacing the whole skin patterns would be extremely time consuming lol. If i had like 5 seconds of Jar Jar i mite try it but im totally a nood when it comes to convertin data too video files.

Liking thoes quotes there DuTwan from my favorite filums ;-)

I'll be carefull...

Sorry to be so confratianal with a few lately (bad times in my life).

But linked in with the wishlist theres a big problem with

.....Max rebo. Stills and animation period.

No idea how to improve this one at all (it aint just a matter of retexturein the image either).
