Idea: More video game edits...just a suggestion

Given the amazing quality of the Star Wars: Bounty Hunter edit that was recently released, I think it would be neat if someone decided to do something similar for several other video games in the Star Wars universe.  I’m sure several could pull it off reasonably well.  Even the games for Episodes I and III, though they closely follow the plot of the films, are told a little differently and could potentially be edited to be very interesting.  This is just an idea I had, and I doubt anyone would take it up, but it’s a fun idea I thought.

I second this suggestion. It would be interesting to see other versions of Star Wars games.

Someone on fanedit.org compiled a movie from "The Force Unleashed" using a Wii source.

I'd personally be more interested in seeing its sequel.

The 90s videogames that had fully realised FMVs would be ripe for the treatment. Especially 'Rebel Assault II' (Near verbatim)...

...and all the videos from 'Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II' linked by a minimal ammount of in game footage. Of course DF2 would need two cuts.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

All of those titles would be great conversions especially Rebel Assault II & Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II having real life actors in it. Lets all cross our fingers for that.

That looks pretty cool.  I'll have to check it out.  Have you yourself considered doing another movie like Bounty Hunter? ;)

We're tossing around a few ideas, so we'll see what happens. :)

I'm glad to hear it.  If I may suggest again as I did in the first post, though it is of course up to you guys, that I think an edit of the TPM or ROTS could be interesting, as they would expand upon the original plots in interesting ways.  I probably like that sort of thing more than others, but it could be an interesting, different kind of PT edit.

Eagerly and patiently awaiting to see what ideas you are tossing around to create  : )

I agree, those could be interesting. Neither of those games are really on my radar as far as games I was considering. I honestly HATED that TPM game! I did like the ROTS game, but Daveytod put together a DVD about that years ago called "Episode III The Video Game - The Movie." The thread for it is HERE.

Well, I'm much more interested in putting something together based on a game that tells an original story outside of the movies. Something like Republic Commando, Dark Forces, or Shadows of the Empire. I'm even interested in less popular titles like Starfighter, Jedi Starfighter, etc. At this point, I'm not sure when or if we'll put something else together. Bounty Hunter was such a massive project that took an eternity to complete. The next project, if there is one, will have to have a much smaller scope. :)

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter - Beyond The Game 2.0

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter - Beyond The Game

Galactus any of those titles sound great for a project. I will support in anyway if you ever start one up again : ). Yes it does take awhile to create a project but it is definately worth the wait and the time and effort that is put into the project that makes the release that much more satisfying to the fans and the creators themselves.

I'd love to see that Episode III movie by Daveytod.  Sadly MySpleen has no more seeders.  I'll put in a seed request, and hopefully it will show up again.

Well, sadly it appears no one wants to seed the Episode III movie.  I'll keep hanging in there, but it is so old, I doubt anyone will provide it.

I know that there are several KotOR 1 & 2 movies on youtube and from what I've heard some of them are really good.

The only one I've seen is the one by ABDirector:

It's really well done but sadly far from being finished.

There's also a The Fore Unleashed movie on Youtube. Just search for The Force Unleashed movie and you'll find it, but I don't think it's worth watching as it's basically the cut scenes with uncut ingame footage inbetween...

The best known one is by Kevin Sokal: http://www.youtube.com/user/kevinsocal2k6

He's onto the 3rd in his trilogy now. I've been following it mainly because I've actually been working on my own KOTOR edit off and on for the last 4 or 5 years!

There are 2 areas where his edit falls flat - no lip movements for the protagonist (unlike ABDirector's which does a far better job despite being less known) and too many characters! Having said that, a lot of his editing choices are just inspired!

The problem with every attempt I've seen at a KOTOR adaptation is that they want to make a direct and unaltered translation of the game, keeping the exact story and every character. A mission which is essentially "Collect 4 parts of a puzzle to find the bad guy's base" reeks of a Video Game to me. Also, having 9 companion characters for the protagonist may work in an open-ended RPG, but it certainly doesn't in film! There's not enough focus and less opportunities for character development.

My edit doesn't fall into these traps, which unfortunately has made it harder to finish. Lip syncing and voicing the main character (who is previously mute) is also a nightmare!

KOTOR is the only Star Wars game I've ever given a shit about having adapted to film. The Force Unleashed and its sequel were pretty one dimensional and boring from a story perspective. I've never understood the praise for KOTOR 2 as the story just sucks (not to mention the game was released unfinished with no real ending to the story). Bafflingly, there seem to be more attempted edits of KOTOR2 than there are for KOTOR.

If the Prequels had even half the story and heart that KOTOR has, then I'd have been very happy.
