Idea: Any hope for killing the "NOOOOOOOOOO"? (in the 2011 blu ray)

I’m about to watch ROTJ’s bluray. I’ve dragged my feet as long as possible, hoping that some of the jedi-editers would scrape something together that even faintly resembles past ROTJ goodness of yester-year. But it seems that most are tired and burned out on their previous DVD releases (and rightly so!).

Question – is it possible for me to get rid of Vader’s new “NOOOOOO”? I guess if all else fails, I can just mute it, but I am so terrified of even hearing it ONCE that I’ll have to mute a good chunk before and after, ruining the scene.

I’ve googled for what it would take for me to remux in the sound track for that scene from another release, but I feel I would surely botch it.

Any ideas? All I really care about is just never ever hearing that nooo during that scene, forever tainting it 😕

It is should be possible by splicing in the 2004 mix where Vader would be shouting "NOOOOOO", but yes... it would take a fair bit of meddling.

Stick around a bit - chances are someone here will do it at some point anyway. This one is not exactly a universally loved change!

You could...just not watch the Blus? =)

You should check out Harmy's Despecialized Edition of ROTJ. It's a recreation of the 1983 version in 720p.

Or you could track down an HD broadcast, which is the Special Edition but doesn't include the NOOOOooooo.

Either way, you should keep the official Blu-ray far away from your player.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

you're still going to have to deal with that awful shot of Hayden Christiansen's ghost at the end as well. No need to put yourself through that kind of torture.

Thanks for the ideas fellas.

I agree that it's still suffering with the other parts (like Hayden), but not quite like the thousand-years-of-being-digested suffering to hear that "NOOOO".

Anyway, I went ahead and am currently watching the HDTV version.

Fingers crossed on a future blu-day!! :)

which version is the HDTV? isn't that the same as the first SE?

The "Nooooooooo!!" added to ROTJ isn't as bad as I had feared. Not nearly as bad as the one in Episode III anyway.

Having only ever watched ROTJ maybe 10 times in 25 years and mostly on small screen VHS I had never noticed that as Vader is lit up by the Emperor you can see his skull. I thought that was a new effect so I went back to the GOUT to check and saw it was there too, but as I watched the scene in the GOUT I *Almost* missed the "NOOOO!!" - it just seemed oddly quiet...

NOOOOOOOO!!! What is wrong with me?

I didn't try the other audio tracks on the Bluray, I suppose it is on all of them?

That's exactly how they want you to react. Each re-release will bring a dozen new "Oh, I guess this isn't that bad..." changes until nothing remains of the original except for one single, overprocessed shot of Chewbacca's butt B)

Any updates on this? Anyone know of any fan edits where Vader's "Noooo" has been wiped?

I'm contemplating just ripping my bluray myself, then trying to splice in old sound. I'm wagering that I'm going to have a hard time laying it in seamlessly, however. But perhaps it's better than simply not watching RotJ bluray (which I still refuse to do, prohibiting my precious childhood memory banks of nostalgia from being overwritten with digital blasphemy :) )

The timing should be identical for the soundmixes regarding the 2004 track and the blue one. It's just an issue of 5.1 vs 7.1, if you care at all.

My choice is the '97 edition and I'm waiting on DJ's upscale.

Ya, I wouldn't mind using 5.1. How would you splice it in without getting a "pop" or crack or any kind of distortion between the cuts?

And what's DJ's upscale? I tried searching, but it's not working (not sure if it's me or the server).

Well it's not out yet. You_Too has posted some snaps from their '97 ANH preliminary work here. Also, I was just saying that since the timing should be identical between editions of the movie (most of the changes are visual w/out additional timing or have to do with sound), you could flat-out replace the soundtrack whole. It would certainly be easier than creating a custom mix.
