How would the GOUT look upconverted on a BluRay player?

Just wondering if anyone has a BluRay player, does the GOUT look any better upconverted? Maybe a stupid question, but I was curious. Thanks.

If it looks lousy in SD, it looks lousy in HD. If you watch the DVD on your computer you are basically getting an upconverted image so it looks similar to that.

A lot of inexpensive DVD players will "upconvert" DVDs for HD televisions as well.

It depends on the player, as well. I don't think there are many blu-ray players (yet) that upconvert sd dvds very well. The Toshiba hd-dvd players were supposed to be great with upconverting sd dvds, and a lot of people bought them just for that purpose (especially after they went on sale recently). But hopefully, future blu-ray players will get better with upconverting.

I dunno, the anamorphisized version upconverted by the PS3 on a 42" Plasma is certainly watchable.

think of it like this:

the UDT
(Un Destroyed Trilogy) is like looking at a slightly grainy picture of a beautiful landscape (or whatever suits your fancy).

the 2004 versions are like looking at a crystal clear picture of a pile of shit.

As funny as that was, you do realize that the unaltered and special editions are the same movies, right? I mean, that's why we need to specify which edition they are instead of referring to them by title.

Just like the DNA between chimps and humans are 99% identical. Its the little details that make the difference. :p

Just a hunch, but I don't think many people here subscribe to that train of thought.

Nyuck nyuck nyuck.

I know what you are saying though, from an entertainment point of view its close enough to the same film. But I would argue that the coloring errors alone massively bring down the watchability of the SE. I'm not that huge a SE hater but its gotten to the point where the coloring alone makes it unviewable to me because I can just watch the original version where it looks nice and not a mess, irrespective of the negative "enhancements" that are found in the SE. And again, if it ain't broke don't fix it, so its highly distracting to see something that never needed alteration have changes made that make the film worse.

Arnie, please don't embed large images, it's better to post them as links instead.

Huge images within posts annoys Zion as much as posting in all caps annoys me :)

I used a program called DVD Rebuilder to make the gout anamphoric. I know it's not true anamaphoric, but it does allow me to keep my HDTV in "full" mode so it is in proper dimensions and uses the full resolution of the display. I then play it in my Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD player which uses the Reon chip to upscale to 1080i and has some really great noise reduction and detail enchancing features. It is the best the OOT trilogy has ever looked on my display. I also have a Sony blu ray player but it doesn't do SD-DVD near as good as the Toshiba HD-DVD player does.

I use a PS3 for Blu-rays and a lot of my SD DVD upscaling, but it doesn't have a good way to "zoom" in on letterboxed DVDs like the GOUT. The Xbox 360 has several zoom and stretch(yuck) modes. I watched the entire GOUT last week with my 360, which is hooked to a 46" 1080p Samsung LCD with HDMI. It's quite watchable. It's grainy, but that doesn't bother me too much. You will see some "jaggies" at times, mostly due to zooming in on the non-anamorphic picture. It certainly doesn't look like any Blu-ray, HD-DVD, or even halfway decent upscaled DVD but like I said, it's watchable and quite enjoyable.

I would love to see the trilogy on Blu-Ray with both versions especially the prequels on Blu-Ray.
