How to use HuffYUV — Page 3

I just downloaded the file and saved it to the virtualdub folder on my desktop. Now I'm not sure how to get it to appear in the virtualdub program. The plugin is an unknown file and can't be opened itself. I suspect that it is like the Huffy codec and isn't meant to be opened itself but rather loaded into the vdub program. Am I right?

The vdf file is a VirtualDub filter. Place it in the plugins folder within the VirtualDub directory. Now open VirtualDub, select Video -> Filters, and you should see the plugin listed along with VDub's built in filters.

Just opened up the files and loaded the plugin from the vdub folder. But now I have this option box.
Pass thru
Source attributes
channels (keep all of them checked right?)
View
I assume video, vectorscope, wave form monitor and histograms are just different ways to look at the video and measure its attributes.
-hot pixel scan (is this referring to something overexposed)
-max IRE (I believe this has to do with black levels. Is 110 a good number?)

Do these plugins only work when the video is being captured? Or can they be added later. And is there a plugin to adjust the capture image area so that I can compensate for the up shift in the PDI captures? (notice how the smash bros. images are no longer centered within the black frame)

Pass thru just passes the video through the filter untouched - i.e. does nothing.

Read here to learn about attributes:

Just look at the luma channel, waveform monitor for basic black and white level calibration. Use the vectorscope for saturation.

Hot pixel scan is supposed to show pixels with an RGB value that will clip on analogue displays. The theoretical max. IRE is 100, although it doesn't hurt to go a bit higher. The default settings will turn pixels with IRE value 110 and above black. I shouldn't worry about this mode too much.

Okay I'm trying out Dscaler out now. The captures don't crop off the top. YAY!!! Looks good with a lot of options to adjust stuff so far except clicking on one option frose my computer. I had to turn off the power switch because ctrl/alt/del didn't work. It's impossible to say which exactly because opening up the program has it stuck on that setting still frosen. So I can't check. Something on the far left tab I switched to the other active option that looked similar. I hope the program isn't going to be stuck forever like this 'cause it looked really cool. With my computer that is built with a lot of power for video capturing what the hell could slow it down like that?

What I would have liked to know in the first place (had it not crashed) is how do I make sure capturing with Dscaler uses the huffyUV codec? Oh yeah and that audio stuff. Have the cable hooked up to the same place I used with PDI captures in virtual dub. But I don't believe I got sound with DScaler. (Could be wrong didn't get much of a chance to tell with the program crashing)

EDIT: the tab on the far left is called Sources. Most of the options were grayed out except the current one and the one I switched to got everything stuck. DScaler still won't respond.
