Help with Adywan's Episode V Color Corrected 1080p DVD

Author
Time

Ok, so i downloaded Ady's Ep. 5 1080p dvd, and i put it in DVD shrink to compress it onto a 4.7 GB DVDR, just like I did with his ANH Revisited (I'm not worried about losing menus, all I need is quality and the movie itself, which I got perfectly last time with Revisited)

Now, when I try to put the file into DVD shrink, by doing Open Files or Open Disc Image, this message pops up:

Failed to open file "C:\Users\Dylan\Downloads\Star Wars EP V Colour Corrected Adywan AVCHD\VIDEO_TS.IFO

Now I'm no expert on computers, but I'm guessing I'm somehow missing the VIDEO_TS folder or file? All the files downloaded completely on the torrent so I don't know what the problem is.

Any help/suggestions?

There is no VIDEO_TS folder, that is NOT a DVD,it is an AVCHD(Bluray),you can not use DVDShrink to shrink it,just burn it to a DVD9 and watch it that way.

O, I see, well seeing as I have no DVD9's i might be screwed. Few diffferent questions then

1. Where can I get a blank DVD9 and how much do they cost?

2. Will I be able to watch it in a normal DVD player or Xbox 360? (only 2 that we got)

3. Does a normal DVD version exist?

1. You can get blank Verbatim DVD9's at Best Buy.

2. This AVCHD Disc plays on Blu-ray players and PS3.

3. No

aw man, o well, we can't afford buying a Blu-Ray or PS3 just for this. hope Ep.5 Revisited won't be just Blu-Ray, thanks

this isn't "Episode V: Revisited" - this is a color corrected HD broadcast converted specifically to AVCHD.

It helps if you know beforehand what you are downloading.

It might be possible to convert the AVCHD disc into WMV-HD, that way you can play on your Xbox 360 and keep the resolution.

Yeah, all the AVCHD ESB is is a restored 1997 theatrical SE made from a 1080p broadcast of the 2004 SE, but color-corrected like ESB: Revisited will be.

If you want to make a DVD of it, it would be more or less pointless unless you want the 1997 SE on DVD.  Though it's probably not 100% exactly like the 1997 SE - I believe there were some minor effects tweaks for the 2004 SE that weren't noticed or replaced by Adywan, but that's more or less negligible.  Even then, the 1997 SE had its own color issues that wouldn't be preserved since this is Adywan's personal color-correction, but that's really an improvement.

There are ways to convert it to DVD format, but I don't know how specifically.  By the same token, you should also be able to convert it to a 1080p video file that can be played in an Xbox 360, but again, I don't know how.

just need to convert it to a playable format on the 360.  h264+AC3 will not work on the 360 in any format (that i am aware of...) - you'll be converting either the video for 720p AVI or audio for 2.0 MP4 UNLESS you encode both for WMVHD.

The 360 doesn't support h.264/AC3?  Really?  That's kinda stupid of them ...

Ya i know I meant i hope Revisited won't be Blu-Ray only, and it seems likely that it'll be normal DVD also. Well if any1 can find a guide for converting this it'll be very appreciated. I'd do it now but I've been out all day and don't feel like it, I will later probably.

Thanks

I'll second the request. I know it kinda "defeats the purpose" of the project to downconvert it to SD, but it would nonetheless be nice to have a good, colour-corrected, non-2004-Emperor version of ESB to watch until ESB:R comes out. (I speak, of course, as one without an HD TV or blue-ray player; obviously, this exercise would be pointless otherwise.)

I know negative1 mentioned he'd managed to do it using a program called AlltoAVI. I tried it out and made a little headway, but my efforts were ultimately fruitless. So if anyone has any suggestions on how to downconvert this puppy, it'd certainly be appreciated by some of us HD-deprived sods. :)

you could convert this to 720p xvid plop it into an AVI while keeping the AC3 sound.

i do all that kinda stuff in avidemux on linux (and there is a windows version) - it uses ffmpeg libraries for decoding so it supports a wide range of input.

add the AVCHD m2ts file, change video codec to XviD, add a resize to 720p filter and encode at Q2 and you'll have a great looking AVI playable on xbox360 and ps3 - will probably be ~2GB.

thats why i stuck with my PS3. i got given a XBOX360 recently and i was very unimpressed by its media capabilities compared to the PS3. Unfortunately the 720p version of ESB:R will be only available in AVCHD (which people can easily convert without reencoding to a mkv). AVCHD is the way to go especially since Blu-Ray won the format war. It can be easily burned to a DL DVD, popped into a PS3 or bluray player and viewed on your TV in all its glory. Converting it to an XVID  for an XBOX would destroy the quality. x264 codec is far superior to XVID and you can have a smaller file and higher quality than XVID could ever hope to achieve. A 2 hour movie would need to be at least 4.5 GB using the XVID codec. why the hell people stream their movies off the PC to their XBOX 360 and have to worry about the file size and codec used is beyond me when you can easily plug your PC into your TV and watch the movie without having to convert.

Give up on the XBOX360 as a media player and get yourself a cheap PS3. you'll have a blu-ray player and very good media player all in one, or just get a DVI lead (to either HDMI or DVI whatever your TVs input is) and use your PC as a media player.

Since none of you has put up the easy way of watching this movie, and I spent way too much time on the internet trying to figure how to play it, here is my guide (to play the movie on a Windows PC):

1. Get Deamon Tools (the lite version is free).

2. Mount the .ISO file and browse the directory.

3. Play the media file in the STREAM folder (00001.m2ts) with your media player of choice.

Please excuse me if this is common knowledge.

Thanks. I would also add the following, from my experience:

1. I stopped using Daemon Tools after it started to come bundled with adware (to be fair, it is optional). Anyway, I prefer Virtual Clone Drive these days.

2. It you're still on Windows XP, you won't be able to browse the directory until you've installed the UDF 2.5 drivers.

I can do AC3 (and DTS too) just fine on my 360 using Windows Media Center.
