Help Wanted: anyone have the old 20th Century Fox Logo in good quality?

Does anybody have a movie with the old 20th Century Fox logo in good quality? I’ve watched a lot of De-SEing projects who seem to try to use logos from laserdisc transfers instead of grabbing them from an anamorphic, better-preserved movie. I wanna do a little preservationalist project and I wanna start it off real nice from the get-go–I mean the logo is the first thing you see and seeing it in crappy quality was always a kill-joy for me watching De-SEing projects. Anyway if anyone has a 20th Century Fox film from the like–80s and back and can use–like–DVDShrink or something to just get that one clip in a vob file that’d be a great help.

Here’s a list–surprisingly I dont have any of these films!

You probably need an NTSC version, right?

EDIT: Isn't one from the GOUT good enough?
Fez: I am so excited about Star Whores.
Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

Right--NTSC--sometimes I forget where I am.

I think I can get away with the Lucasfilm logo coming from the GOUT, but I need something anamorphically crystal clear for Fox--to really get people riled up for this.

Star Wars and Empire
(logo spans 1953 to 1981)

Jedi
(logo spans 1981 to 1994)

If anyone has the Lucasfilm logo from Willow, I think that'd be cool too, it's not the original, but it looks real retro--maybe I'll do it as an alternate title.

Well does the Planet of the Apes movies use the original one? If they do, I can help you.

"Alien", "Aliens" (and probably "Alien 3") have the logo you are looking for, but I only have the PAL versions.

Spock, PaulisDead2221 probably can't check if it has the original logo. I think it's much easier if you put it in you dvd player and check the logo.

I remember reading some discussions over the opening Fox logo. It would seem that there are slight differences between some of the logos, so taking the logo from a movie of the same time period may not be 100% accurate, but I guess it'd be good enough.

Alien would probably be a good pick. Aliens in 1.85 though, so it's the wrong aspect ratio.

Looking at the logo at the start of Alien, it's a bit different from the Star Wars & ESB ones. The 20th Century Fox thing is a bit on the left (as opposed to centered), there's some difference in the spotlights, and the blue isn't as dark.

This has me interested, so I've been scanning a few 70s era Fox titles. So far, the closest I've come across for Star Wars & ESB is from the American theatrical version of "The Leopard". The copy on the Criterion DVD isn't quite pristine (some film specs), but it's pretty good. Also note that the Star Wars Fox logos fade out early for the Lucasfilm logo. There are some other titles that you guys can check (Planet of the Apes, Poseidon Adventure, Towering Inferno, French Connection all come to mind), but I think I'll stop before I get obsessed.

If you're talking about the screenshot I posted, that's the wrong logo--I just grabbed it off of wikipedia without looking at my ld, what you're describing in alien sounds right. maybe send a vob?

If it's an anamorphic version of the former of these two--jackpot

I think ocpmovie used the opening logos from Empire of Dreams.

You can download the PAL version of the logo with DD and DTS sound here.

The Alien logo is still a bit off (I noticed the screenshot was wrong when I compared it to the 2006 DVDs). The main difference is, I believe, the spotlights have an outline around them, the background isn't as dark, and the clouds aren't as pronounced. The Alien logo more closely matches the ROTJ one. As I said, the closest I could find was on that release of "The Leopard". Of the possible films I mentioned in my last post, The Poseidon Adventure & Towering Inferno don't include opening logos, and French Connection is 1.85. Maybe someone can investigate MASH, Planet of the Apes, and Down with love.

I won't be able to upload anything until the weekend (I'm at college now and don't have any of my DVDs with me).

Of course, the Alien logo may be good enough for the purpose.

That looks quite astounding. Maybe I can do an NTSC conversion. This is the 81-94 logo? I can't exactly tell

Shifty eyes--the aspect ratio might not matter depending on how they crop their logos film to film--anyone with more info on that?

Oh yeah--Willow on DVD anybody? for the retro/modern lucasfilm logo?

It's from Alien theatrical (so from 1979).

Here's the LucasFilm Logo from Willow (again, PAL version).

Alright, I have Planet of the Apes and all its sequels but how do I get that clip from it? DVDs also tend to crash my computer.

EDIT: I just tried it and it's horrible. It made my computer go into overclock mode then locked it.

You could use dvd decrypter and rip the VOBs and the vdubmod to open them and mark the piece of video you want then export it as a targa sequence or similar.

DVDs crash your PC? You gotta love windows.

Well I played the DVD on my DVD player and it turns out that the clouds aren't as dark as the Star Wars one.

None of them will have identical colour - two different original star wars prints coming from two different labs wouldn't even have identical colour.
Whatever one you use will have to be colour corrected.

Interesting point, but I wouldn't know what to use as my reference. Using the GOUT, for example, would mean purposefully darkening it, desaturating it, things that could be the transfer and not necessarily the film lab print. Then again there was talk about differences in the outlines of the spotlights and such as well. Ahh who knows.

The logo posted earlier looks great anyway. Does anyone have any of these DVDs?

I found my DVD of Edward Scissorhand, and thought my search for an ROTJ-like Fox logo was complete, but as it turns out...well you know how it is with Tim Burton and putting "snow" and "blue" all over production company logos. Anyway I tried to narrow this down to movies I thought people around here would have, if you have any, or have the '81 to '93 logo in any digital form, and it's in the right aspect ratio, do post.

Out of that list I had these handy:
# True Lies (1994)
# Die Hard (1988)
# Die Hard 2 (1990)
# Aliens (1986)
# Alien³ (1992)
# Predator (1987)
# Predator 2 (1990)
# Commando (1985)

I looked at em all and the best of the bunch are Die Hard 2, Predator 2 and Alien³. Alien³ is the clearest one. I can rip all 3 and upload them if you'd like? VOBs, or demuxed M2V+AC3 files? By the way they're PAL. However, this might be better since you want the best looking one. You can always replace the sound anyway.

EDIT: Well, I've just tried ripping the Fox logo and the minimum I can extract with DVD Decryptor is a chapter. Is there a ripper program that lets you specify a time range to extract?

You could extract the whole chapter, then use something like ChopperXP to cut just the logo sequence out of the VOB.
