A request.
I recently stopped my Sky subscription. Starting on Friday 13th October 2006 at 02:40 to 03:30 (so it’s more like Thursday night) Sky One are repeating (i assume weekly) the “Ultimate Sci Fi Top 10” series in Widescreen. Is it possible someone could record these for me for a forthcoming release.
I must ask the following: They are recorded onto DVD at the highest quality possible, and they are recorded in 16x9 anamorphic format via RGB scart. NOT matted and NOT fullscreen please. I will pay for all media and postage.
I know it’s asking a lot but it will make a fantastic disc.
Thank you all,
babyhum

My advice is to get yourself a new Sky subscription, and watch it yourself. Why do these forums now seem to attract freeloaders?

Freeloading? I'm interested in releasing a compilation of the show to the group which i think will make a decent release. A few of my releases have been recordings from Sky. I have had to give up Sky due to my financial situation.

I thought this forum was to encourage sharing.

Obviously not.

You're ignorant.

This kind of attitude only encourages me to stop releasing.

baby hum, don't let this piece of garbage discourage you. He's been a pest in every thread he's posted in and hasn't really contributed anything solid to this board. Sorry I don't have Sky, otherwise I'd help you out...

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Way to go boris. My advice. Open mouth, insert foot.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Baby hum.

I am a huge fan of your work (don't let that comment above ruin it for you). I would have offered my services but I don't have a way of getting things off my Sky box at the moment. I will however record it in case my situation changes in the meantime.

Come on people - surely someone can give a little back to one of the biggest contributors in this community!

With parts of these boards filling up with stupid comments and petty arguments, I must admit that I have considered whether or not to even finish the projects I am involved with. Please think before you post.

I am in the same situation I have Sky plus but I have no way of putting the recording onto DVD, otherwise I would be more than happy to do this for another member of this community, I think Boris is pretty of out order as baby hum wasnt asking alot considering he shares his projects with us...

If anyone can put them on Sky Plus in the UK and doesn't mind me visiting them and taking the recordings off myself I would be very appreciative.

I'm not one to agree with boris (as you'll note from other threads), but I didn't read this statement as being any sort of condemnation of baby hum. Rather, I took it to be more of a lament that here at OT.com, even a guy like baby hum who has given a lot to the community, can't get a (reasonably) simple request filled. Sort of like, "if you want it done right, you're going to have to do it yourself."

Which, sadly, I think is about right. There are relatively few people producing content (e.g. baby hum), and a whole bunch more who could be classified as freeloaders. Including me.

Baby hum, I suspect you might have more luck soliciting the cash to be able to sign up for Sky again yourself than you will getting a capture done to your high-quality specs. I'd prolly huck a few bucks (quid?) your way if I knew where to send it, but since I don't live anywhere near a place Sky broadcasts nor own a DVD recorder, I absolutely can't help out with the actual mechanics of capping for you. I'll bet there are dozens of people here on OT.com that are in my same sort of boat.

I think the best way of solving this is for some kind hearted soul with Sky Plus records the series for me and I retrieve it myself. It's a great little show with some exclusive interviews with Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Dave Prowse.

Two reasons why I'm not doing this myself. Financial (I refuse to give Sky any more of my money) and timing (I'm going abroad on business at the end of the week and won't be around to record it)

Listen, if those of you out there can grab it for me, great. If not, don't worry. But it would have made a really nice release.

What?

Is that another way of saying "free-loading".

It seems to me that if you would like to watch something on Sky, then you should pay for Sky.

"I refuse to give Sky any more of my money"

And I'm sure they'll refuse to give you their services... [sarcasim] Hey anyone in Japan wanna go buy me a copy of Astro Boy - the complete series, and burn it to dvd for me? I don't think you can get the Japanese Language version here, and I refuse to give my money to the company who licensed the copyright to it. I'll pay you to burn me a copy, but I don't want to pay for it. [/sarcasim]

PS: It's freeloading.

It is about sharing. Unfortunately, boris only shares his ignorance and stupidity.

I have all 12 of baby hum's fine Star Wars releases and they are great. It's a shame that real life/financial issues have stopped baby hum from being able to afford Sky. However, as I know there are many others out there that have enjoyed his fine releases (just check the Official Babyhum Release thread) - it was not out of line at all to ask for someone to capture/record a program for him to be used in a future release. Babyhum, if I had Sky I'd help out, though I'm sure that someone will record them and be able to provide you with copies.

As for boris: I haven't said anything to or about you because I figure it's best to stay out of the way of people like you. But when you call babyhum a freeloader and then continue to do so when other members of the forum (who've been here long enough to realise how much of an asset he is to this forum) explain that babyhum has previously given a lot of projects to us, then I have to stop by and post. Go back to your bloated "anamorphic/non-anamorphic" mathematics in the other thread. Don't slag off people who have shared so much with this forum.

I have SkyHd so i'll gladly cap the series for you. I already have the series but i recorded it at a lower bitrate so i can fit a load of stuff on the DVD, but i don't mind at all re-capping it for your project. I can transfer it to DVD at max bitrate for you. just PM me and we'll discuss details. I'll record it from SkyOneHD. even though it isn't a HD source, the image quality is still better than usual Sky chanels.

Boris, when did you go from being a pest to just an outright jerk? WTF? If you are going to insult and piss off
valued members here so that they end up leaving, maybe you should just go first. Take a hike boring...I mean boris.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Hi baby hum,

If you get no joy with adywan, I can record it for you from telewest onto my DVD recorder.

Thanks

I'm sorry if I've caused conflict - but I don't mean to insult the members here, and I refuse to believe that getting a copy of something which you can legally choose to pay for is anything but freeloading. I said the same thing to people who claimed they would keep their VHS copies of SW, skip the OUT release and wait for the X0. Sharing fan edits and genuine preservations is a great idea. "Sharing" (ie freeloading) off stuff you have a choice to pay for isn't.

"I just got a new DVD, would you like me to burn you a copy?"

How about I share my copy of Windows XP with you all?

Now I'm not that familiar with the laws of the UK, so forgive me if I'm wrong - but isn't recording for yourself legal, but making copies of that recording for friends illegal? So that would mean that, legally, it's called freeloading.

Now lets take it back a notch... isn't it understood that to get a fan preservation, or a fan edit that you should, where possible, own a legal copy. Is that not the general understanding with the "sharing" of the fan-edits and preservations here, isn't that the "spirit of things"??

Baby Hum has said that he "can't afford" to have a Sky subscription (he then went and said something else that appears to contradict this) - but let's be honest here, if I can't afford a Porsche - then what right would have to expect to have a Porsche?

So even though baby hum has come on, publicly stated he is choosing not to buy this product, but he would like for someone to burn him a copy - no one except me seems to see a problem with this. Well we all have to choose how to spend our money. If baby hum would rather spend his money on life's other luxuries then on pay-tv, how is it that he can still expect to enjoy the benefits of pay-tv?

Until I get an intelligent reply, rather then the "you're so stupid, Boris" bullshit flaming I just keep repeating what I've already said.

I'm sure lots of people can't receive the channel if they wish to pay for it or not.

"I just got a new DVD, would you like me to burn you a copy?"
Sure, if I can't buy it in stores here.

How about I share my copy of Windows XP with you all?
No, we just want you serial number

Now I'm not that familiar with the laws of the UK, so forgive me if I'm wrong - but isn't recording for yourself legal, but making copies of that recording for friends illegal? So that would mean that, legally, it's called freeloading.

I don't know. So what, you can buy recorders. Maybe you shoud try and stop that.

Now lets take it back a notch... isn't it understood that to get a fan preservation, or a fan edit that you should, where possible, own a legal copy. Is that not the general understanding with the "sharing" of the fan-edits and preservations here, isn't that the "spirit of things"??

Yes it is.

Baby Hum has said that he "can't afford" to have a Sky subscription (he then went and said something else that appears to contradict this) - but let's be honest here, if I can't afford a Porsche - then what right would have to expect to have a Porsche?

If he can't afford it and get's it in another way does sky loose money? What's the big deal!

Because he will share it with others who can't get it. He only asks for 1 program, not the entire package.

Boris. Did you ever cross the speedlimit? Did you ever walk through a red light at 2 in the morning when there was no other traffic on the road. You never had any illegal software on your computer, ever? You never pissed in the bushes? You don't record things yourself? Come on, I'm SURE you tried some drugs! DID YOU EVER DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL?

Boris, there is a complete difference between "freeloading", as you call it, and what baby hum has requested. Freeloading is getting something done for you for personal gain, or just for ones self. What baby hum has requested is for a project that will ultimately be shared with others. He isn't asking just because he wants a copy and doesn't want to pay for it. Now if he'd said " there's a program i really want to see, but there's no way i'm going to pay for a subscription or any postage etc. or give anything back in return then that is what is classed as freeloading and i wouldn't have offered to cap the programs for baby hum

A quick question for you: do you have a copy of any of the fan based releases? If so, then by your definition, you yourself are a freeloader.

Boris, i have noticed that all you seem to do recently is post negative remarks and harsh critisisms towards members of this forum but without the knowledge to backup your arguments. At least know what you are talking about before you see fit to spout your deluded wisdom in here. If you say you don't mean to insult members in here, then please think about what comments you are posting and the tone in which you say them before you do.
