Worst Dialogue Cliche

Author

ELEKTRA

"You saved my life."
"No... you saved mine."

THE BLIND SIDE

"You changed that boys life."
"No... he changed mine."

HARDBALL

"You sure taught those kids a lot."
"No... they taught me."

Can anyone name other examples of this ham-fisted awful line/flipping dialogue trope? I know there are more. Every time I hear a variation of it, it's like a hammer to the eye.

Is that the Sphinx from Mystery Men?

Almost every line of dialogue from the character was a spoof of that Cliche.

ANAKIN: You are so beautiful!

PADME: It's only because I'm so in love . . .

ANAKIN: No, it's because I'm so in love with you.

PADME: So love has blinded you?

ANAKIN: Well, that's not exactly what I meant . . .

PADME: But it's probably true!

They laugh.

"Some kind of."

As in "This looks like some kind of ____," or "It must be some kind of ____," or "I think it's some kind of ______."

Just drop the "some kind of!"  It's unnecessary and it bugs the fucking shit out of me!

... *ahem* ... sorry about that.

This appears to be some kind of trap.

"We made it!" as a precursor to clearly not.

"we need closure"

"you need to let someone in"

"we will get through this because we are a family" (usually coupled with the speaking character grasping the hand of the person they are talking to.

"I made a promise"

"I've got your back"

"We have company"

"He killed my brother"

Is this some kind of bust?
Yes, ma'am, it's very impressive.

I will not list every time I have heard it but it seems like on every tv show or movie where a female character has a dead mother at some point someone always makes the remark that she looks just like her mother.  What is worse is a lot of times when we finally see the mother in a flashback or a photo the actress playing the mother looks nothing like the actress playing the daughter, so not only is the statement cliched but it is also untrue.

In time travel stories...

"Where are we?"

"I think the question is, when are we?"

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

"I've got you!"

"But who's got you?"

I don't know how often it appears on-screen, but it's shown up in comic books often enough to make my eyes roll.

Yeah it was a fun bit when it first showed up in Superman the movie but it has been done to death since then.

"Tastes like chicken."

 Hate that line!

Also if you know what to do with it chicken tastes good and doesn't taste like everything else.

I find it worse when they look exactly like their mother, except with a slightly different shade of hair color.

That bugs me too since it rarely happens in real life but at least the line is true in that case.

Problem happens all episode then a conversation about something seemingly irrelevant but one word in the conversation sets the pieces together.

"Oh you know there was a baseball game on last night."
"Oh neat what happened?"
"It was a no hitter"
"'No hitter' you say?"
"Yeah, it was I was so..."
"That's it! They weren't hit at all! They did it to themselves!"
"..."
"All their wounds were self-inflicted! It all makes sense now!"
"..."

ooh that can become quite annoying if it's really forced, particularly if a character says "wait a minute, what did you just say?" "blah de blah" "That's it!!!"
