Was Brasilian dubbing from original VHS, or TV recording?

The first time Star Wars aired on BR television was by 81-83. This audio source I got after a couple months of research around the web. Someone from "Forum Dublanet" sent me .wav files by email. So, I can't tell you exactly where they came from (TV or VHS). But be sure that there are only two dubbings: the one made before the SE and the one made for the SE.

Oh, last year I found an Star Wars VHS sold on mercadolivre.com (similar to ebay) that had "Dublado" (Dubbed) printed on the front cover.

Well, I think we have another one for sale. But this time with Empire price$. Anyway, it's good to check the cover.

So nobody commented on using http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/STAR-WARS-Special-Widescreen-Edition-Technidisc/topic/13263/

to replace GOUT footage used?  Based on the related discussions, this 1993 Technidisc LD transfer was higher quality than the GOUT (though it did have "A New Hope" added...).  On that note, can someone with access to MySpleen PM me a copy of the torrent/magnet link for that?  And a copy of the  MySpleen torrent/magnet link for 2.5 (once it comes out) as well?

I would join MySpleen if I had a means to do it, but unless someone can help with that...

Well, you see, this project is finished and about to be released tomorrow, so there's no point discussing new sources, which would at best be a marginal improvement. Plus from what I've seen, that LD suffers from pretty bad analogue video artifacts, which is by no means meant as a slight to the effort of it's preservation but with a few possible exceptions of heavily smeared shots (for the majority of which I already used non-GOUT sources anyway), it probably really wouldn't be a better source.

And as to the myspleen issue, please read the first post, would you?

Well, I'm going to sleep now. Just a little warning, I'm gonna have a lot of real world stuff to do tomorrow, which is why I tried to get as much done today as I could for the MKV but it is possible depending on when h_h sends me the links to the remaining audio files and when I finish my real world work, that I will be uploading tomorrow over night and the final release won't be until Monday morning, but we'll see how it all works out.

Even if it's another day it doesn't matter, no rush.

I like the new streamlined thread title. Makes it feel pure, like it's finished. And that's pretty cool. Congratulations once again. You deserve to be discovered and put to professional work doing this sort of thing.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

OK, so here's another little bomb shell for you - I changed my mind about the BD. Seeing as how I can pretty much fill a BD25 with just the film and its audio tracks and subtitles and an animated menu, I decided to leave the bonus material for a separate bonus disc, which will enable me to put more lossless audio on the BD and give the bonus material much more space to breathe. I thought about instead making it a BD50, but doing it as two separate discs should make the authoring much easier and also 2 BD25s are still far cheaper than 1 BD50.

Sounds like a great idea. Does it mean we can get MORE bonus materials? Deleted scenes etc.?

I'm 99% sure there is only one French dub and it was made in 1977.

The guy, who dubbed Vader in Star Wars (ESB and ROTJ had a different actor) is François Chaumette.

That is correct. When the Special editions came out, they just hired different actors to fill in the changed/new parts. They left the rest of the dubs alone.

Funny. The same thing was done with the Slovak dubs of the prequels (especially E1 of course)

Actually considering buying a projector this week. 2.5 being one of the main reasons :)

Well, to be honest, I just changed the title of the thread, so it would look better pasted into the nfo file, and I do plan to change it when v2.5 is out.

As to more bonus stuff, yes, I'm definitely not ruling it out.

And I already have all the sound files, so you can expect a release today, but later.

Oops, never mind.

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

I don't even want to say how many hours I just spent reading this thread, but I just have to say a big thanks for the work you're doing. I only wish that someone at Disney/Fox would pay attention to the work guys like you are doing and release these films properly (I'm cautiously optimistic about the future of the original trilogy now that it's no longer Lucas decision what to do with the films).

I really hope Disney doesn't pay much attention to what we're doing...

Agreed. On the same token, I hope they DO pay attention to a proper restoration.

If Disney were to release a properly-restored OT, I'm positive we'd all run out and buy it.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

OK, last check. Here's a final version of the nfo:

This is a reconstruction of the 1977 theatrical version of STAR WARS. The original shots were painstakingly restored using
various sources (listed below) and the film received an extensive shot by shot colour correction based on a fade free 1977
I.B. Technicolor Print.

The audio options include all three 1977 mixes in DTS-HD-MA format; the original 70mm six-track was recreated by hairy_hen,
the original stereo mix was captured from LaserDisc PCM and fixed up by hairy_hen and the original mono mix was restored
by Belbucus. Also included is an isolated score track, four different commentary tracks and a British commentary
for visually impaired.

An assortment of foreign audio and subtitle options (listed below) is also a part of this release.

All subtitles are from "Project Threepio v6.4"

More info here:

If you want to watch with subtitles, take your chosen subtitle .srt file from the

"Subtitles - Project Threepio" folder, copy it to the folder with the .mkv file and

rename the .srt file to the same name as the .mkv file, while keeping the .srt extension.

So for example, if you wanted to watch with Bulgarian subtitles, you would copy the file

"SW-bg-full.srt" from the "Subtitles - Project Threepio" folder to the folder with the

"Star.Wars.Despecialized.Edition.v2.5.mkv" file and rename the file to

"Star.Wars.Despecialized.Edition.v2.5.srt".

Disregard the formatting - it gets screwed up by the forum.

Looks good! The special features being on a second disc sounds like a great idea. All for leaving the main presentation as good as can be! Not sure how quickly I'll be able to jump into the spleen land after release, but will be glad to stay up for a time once ready. Last time, I was the 2nd seeder, in case anyone wondered ;) Will try to continue that trend, but some serious life things happening so I'm not sure..

No matter what, this is some awesome stuff, and I hope the authoring process isn't too much of a headache. Very glad that the "raw material" is being made available "early" in this way, even though it will be cool to see the 'final' bit someday soon. Will be even more amazing to see the three in a row in this way!
As for anyone paying attention, it's a mashup / remix / amalgamation of things. The project should fall under fair use, and the relatively small number of people who even care in any way already own the "real thing" at least 3 times over from various formats. I would bet that 99.9% of all fans own at least one VHS set, at least one DVD set (hopefully the 2006 editions, as they were the only ones really worth buying, since they contained the "GOUT" transfer), the blu ray set, and probably a second VHS copy somewhere, or laserdiscs.
I think that as long as it stays relatively obscure, and as long as we play fair (owning the blu ray, as well as at least one other copy...), and aren't crazy about it, nobody will care. I'm sure we're all going to buy tickets to the next movies, no matter what they do, as well as buy the next box sets, no matter what they do, so in the big scheme of things, I doubt there's anything to worry about.

This is very minor, and maybe intentional on your part, but in this paragraph you do not mention the 1985 and 1993 mixes.  They don't necessarily need to be mentioned here since they are part of the overall list, but I figured I'd point it out just in case.

Anyone remember different camera angles from ROTJ?

I'm certainly willing to seed on MySpleen when the time comes. My UL premium acct is ready to fly at 4.0 Mbps for the initial download. 18 Gig will take a few hours, but I think this will be well worth the wait:)
