I apologize if it was answered before, but what framerate will the MKV (or AVCHD) have ? I'm asking because your workprints were PAL ...
Still working on the crawl but that's the last thing I know about that I might want to do, so yes, rendering is still scheduled for tomorrow :-)

if all goes as planned, you could all be downloading this in a week :-)
That's great!
I was wondering if anybody would mind posting some comparison pics so I can give a few friends an idea of the restoration. Especially showing the restored 77' color pallet. If ya can, thanks!
It's almost here! Thank the maker!
This is going to make Speedy Gonzales look like regular Gonzales!
Exclamation points all around!
By the way, I haven't seen this mentioned, but will there be a DVD version of this? If not, I may need to look into how best to convert an MKV to DVD format for friends who don't have blu-ray players yet. And I'd say this is definitely a project that begs for a dual layer disc as opposed to a mere DVD-5.

That's great news! BTW, do you plan on chaptering the BD version? You could use the chapters of the GOUT, for example.

Please bear with me if I tend to get too excited about anything or say too much, I have issues.
@Bobocop: Yes, a DVD version is still planned. I don't know if it will be a DVD9 though, I was thinking about it but we'll have to see.
@Johnlocke: Yeah, it will have chapters from GOUT :-)
Anyway, here's a short sample of the new crawl compared to the one that appears in the WP:

It was a lot of work but the improvement is quite big and I feel it was definitely worth it :-) Not only are the jaggies much better (they're still there but to about the same or lesser degree as the SE crawl) and the crawl is more accurately placed relative to the starfield :-)

The last one wasn't. And the mkv and all other releases will definitely be 23,976 fps.
Oh - I haven't seen the last one, so thanks for the info.
Also, the new crawl looks MUCH better
Thanks for the answer :) Can't wait!

To be honest, I hadn't thought about those small jaggies until I saw this comparison. It sure looks smooth now. Good job!

On behalf of all of the non-bluray-burner-owners, I would like to humbly request a DVD9 version : )

As long as you're requesting things, you may as well ask for a Blu-ray burner... ;)
forgive me, I'm a bit confused - is Harmy getting ready to release the Blu-Ray version of V2.0 or the AVCHD (I think those are the right letters?) version?
I know the Blu version is gonna have chapters, will the AVCHD?
Don't get me wrong, there will be a DVD9 version but it will be AVCHD. There will be a 720p BD25 a 720p DVD9 AVCHD and SD DVD5. We were talking standard def DVD here and since HD is the whole point of this project, I'm a little reluctant to make a DVD9 for SD.
Also, I'll start rendering soon and I just figured out a way to make the upload easier for me and in the long run, make the download easier for you. This is important, so I'll leave this pend for about an hour before I post the info:
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IN AN HOUR FROM THE TIME THIS POST IS SENT, I WILL POST INFORMATION ABOUT THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE EDIT. 10 PEOPLE WILL GET A CHANCE TO OBTAIN THE LINKS TO THE MKV TWO DAYS BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE BUT IT WILL BE AT A PRICE (NOT A FINANCIAL ONE MIND YOU!).
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool news, although I may pass on the MKV since I don't have any way to watch it with 5.1 sound on my TV.
Speaking of sound, is Hairy Hen's newest 5.1 mix included?
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Great :-)
I hope h_h's new 5.1 will be included. The MKV will be a BD compliant stream, so theoretically, if you used TS Muxer, you could split it into two AVCHD DVD9s.
Nice :-) And does that "price" have anything to do with torrenting the thing?
On another note: Have you considered rendering the lossless video split into several parts, so that - in case of something being wrong - you don't have to re-render the whole thing? The only thing is, I'm not sure if your encoder allows for AviSynth scripts as an input (as that would make re-assembling the pieces very easy). Or is there some kind of AVI-joiner out there, which doesn't require re-encoding?
That sounds like a good idea. Will that be possible Jan?
So, here's the deal; I will upload to uloz.to. Now, I think most of the problems people had downloading from uloz.to were caused by too many people attempting to download at the same time (I know for a fact that some people got the latest WP in under two hours from uloz.to and just yesterday, I downloaded 25GB over night from there without a paid account), so I figured out how to make sure there won't be:
Ten people who send me an email to jipph@email.cz with a promise that once they finish downloding from uloz.to, they'll immediatelly share it elswhere (by uploading to a filesharing site, newsgroups or setting up a torrent) will get the links two days ahead of everyone else. This will make sure that those people should be able to download really fast from uloz.to and that two days later, people should have a choice between 11 different places to downlaod from.
In the email's subject I want you to write:
A) The place you'll upload to (only one per email but you can send more emails with different places).
B) You OT.com user name
24 hours from now, I will devide the emails into groups by the first ten suggested upload placec and then choose one person from each at random.
Important things to consider before you apply:
Did you have serious trouble downlaoding from uloz.to?
Do you have at least fairly good upload speed?
Which is exactly why I'm not putting myself in the running, because I'm terrible at both. ;-)Harmy said:

This is likely to cause artifacts at cuttings points. The only tool that I haven't had such a problem with is Smart Cutter. However, I only use it for DVB streams, not Bluray.
As discussed per PM rendering the AVI in several parts is possible as we're using Avisynth input.
I'm out too. Knowing that I can sometimes download up to 1.6Mb/s, but usually more like 300-400 kb/s and on uloz.to I was around 190k. Plus since demonoid is down, I don't know where I could upload the torrent to.

I never had any issues splitting films like that with TS MUxer. You could even set cut instead of split, so as to have a few seconds repeated at the cutting point :-)
