I was watching ESB Despecialized again today and I think I've spotted a really significant flaw. I never realized it with old VHS copies, etc. but once you go to HD I think Harrison Ford to sexy. I like the HD, but this is distracting. I think it would be best if you left Harrison Ford in standard definition for ROJ, while maintaining the HD for the rest of the cast. Actually maybe standard definition for Lando as well. Just a thought.

lol

Dammit Rob, you need to be posting more.

Wow... I've visited this site infrequently throughout the years, but after discovering Harmy's de-specialized ANH & ESB, I felt compelled to create an account just to thank him for all his hard work.

I just finished watching Empire, and I am stunned by how faithful it is to the film I grew up watching.  I can't even fathom the amount of time and effort you must have put into it, and I also can't thank you enough for such dedication.

I can't wait to see how ROTJ turns out!

Here's an NFO:

RETURN OF THE JEDI - DESPECIALIZED EDITION HD

This is a cut which is very close to the 1983 theatrical version of ROTJ except for some of the cleaned up original VFX (a list of changes with picture comparisons and explanations of how the shots were despecialized coming soon).

SOURCES:

1) Star.Wars.Episode.VI.Return.of.the.Jedi.1983.720p.HDTV.x264-DON (2004 SE)

2) Dark Jedi's 720p upscale of the GOUT.

3) 1997 SE DTV capture (G'Kar)

I did an extensive shot by shot colour correction and although the colours  may not be 100% perfect, I'm really quite satisfied with them.

HIGH DEFINITION RELEASE

FORMAT: AVCHD DVD9

VIDEO: 1280x720p H264 23.976 fps

AUDIO:

TRACK 1) hairy_hen's 5.1 purist mix @ 448Kbps AC3

TRACK 2) 1993 2.0 mix @ 320Kbps AC3

TRACK 3) 1983 2.0 mix @ 224Kbps

TRACK 4) 1992 2.0 Czech dub @ 256Kbps

TRACK 5) 1983 2.0 German dub @ 256Kbps

You might want to update this copy/paste.

"Changing classic movies at all is just wrong." Puggo

"HA, Ha, you r ghey" was probably a hilariously insulting comment in Elementary and Middle School, but its not cooly insulting anymore and its certainly not funny: it makes people who say it look like, well, an "inbred monkey." TheSessler

"I'm still %20 the wiser. It amused me that after doing a google image search for "The Final Milf" the second picture is Roger Delgado followed by lots and lots of porn." Bingowings

First post- and what can I say that hasn't been said?  Harmy- thank you so much for your (and others') work on preserving and improving the originals.  Can't tell you how much it means to an old purist like me!

Ok- I am pretty close to computer illiterate, I'm sorry to say.  I have to ask some very basic questions which make me feel like an ass, but there you go!

#1: I downloaded the 3 parts of ANH (DVD version, not HD), and can play each part on Windows Media Player or VLC player.  However, I'm missing the entire Death Star approach sequence including most of the battle on the DS surface and about half the trench run.  My part 2 ends with Luke in his X-Wing lifting off, and my part 3 begins with Wedge retreating from the trench run.  Is it the player's problem, or part of the file that's missing?

#2:  What specifically do I do to make the file viewable on a DVD?  I tried to just burn it to a disc, and it didn't read.  I don't really know if I need to "de-RAR" the files or not (something I've read here but don't really know how to do it).

#3:  I downloaded just part 1 of the HD version of ANH to compare, and I can't get that to play on any PC program at all.  Can I burn that straight to a DVD and play it in a Blu-Ray player?

#4:  Lastly, I was able to download the entire TESB DVD version, and it plays seamlessly on Windows Media Player without having to load individual parts.  Here also, what do I do (specifically) to get it ready to play on DVD (and can I get similar instructions for the HD version since I do have a BR player)?

Sorry for the sophomoric questions, and thanks in advance for any help I can get!

re myspleen: I'd be very happy if someone could share on myspleen again :-)

re Minisabre: Hi, welcome to the forum. Browse around, I'm sure you'll find more interesting projects and discussions around here (I'd especially recommend Puggo's 8mm and 16mm preservations and Dark Jedi's custom discs.)

Now, to your question: you do have to un-rar all parts (it is basically one rar archive split into several) and then you burn to disc using imgburn going by one of these tutorials:

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burn_dvd_folder_imgburn.cfm

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burn_avchd_with_imgburn.cfm

http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/G/Burning+ISO+Images+with+ImgBurn

I hope this helps :-)

Looking forward to first reviews :-) Please be constructive, because while I'm definitely not doing another version using the HDTV captures, I will probably do one using the Blu-Rays.
