Are there still any plans to release 2.7 with the ANH crawl?

I sure as shit hope not.

I never got this attitude. No one bitches about the sequels having a subtitle, it’s been there since 1981 before the original trilogy was even completed–let alone the special edition–and Lucas actually did always intend it to be there, unlike other BS changes like a digital rock or Vader screaming “Nooooooo.” It’s not even a bad title; it’s frankly a better title than “The Empire Strikes Back.” And it adds uniformity to the films. If you’re watching SW as a standalone film, great, then you don’t need or want it. But as part of the series, it makes sense for it to be there. That’s why options are good. No one would force you to download it, so it’s frankly just a dick move to say you hope no one else can ever see it just because you personally don’t like it.

OK, so I tried avidemux, but it has the same issue as before where everything works perfectly until you get to the exact moment the clips are joined, and then it freezes on the last frame of the last shot before the switch and the image gets all pixelated and just screwed up. But if you drag your cursor past this point before you get there it’s fine. (Tested with both QuickTime and VLC.) It only happens if you watch at the exact point of the splice. This issue was even there when I tried manually concatenating the clips with ffmpeg, so it must be something about the clips not matching up right or something. Perhaps because they were encoded differently? Don’t know.

Just because something is released doesn’t mean you have to download it.

True, but the title of this very thread mentions 1977. Time spent on subsequent revisions (whether it’s a years-later crawl with an altered star field, or the SE butchered versions, or whatever) is time not spent on the OT.

Yeah, good thing these people aren’t devoting their time to satisfying you specifically. Not that it takes long to splice in a crawl. Hell, it was there in the Blu-ray that Despecialized was made from to begin with, you just have to put it back!

And yeah, it is the OT. In fact, it’s as much the OT as Return of the Jedi is considering it predates ROTJ by 2 years.

Face it, you’ve lost. You’re just embarrassing yourself at this point by continuing to talk. Know when to give up.

That’s an imperialscum-level comment right there.

Well, if you want a custom version, then why don’t YOU put it back in, for yourself.

Ah, the entitlement generation…

So what? It’s still not the original version. You know, the one that won oscars and stuff.

Ah, no. But I give you kudos for having an honest name here. You’re VERY dense.

Jesus christ, shut the fuck up about it, MrPib.

I made an ANH crawl for 2.6, so it’s not an unreasonable question.

I did my best to ignore this, because I don’t know if I will indeed get around to encoding and uploading such a thing. Mostly because for 2.6 I did so and no one ever said anything but to complain about the starfield. But holy shit, you people are obnoxious sometimes.

I was just thinking the exact same thing as I read your reply.

I guess this is your way of thanking towne for his hard work.

The most useful thing he has probably done in this community is make sure the ANH version is released, even if it’s only to spite him.

If you download it, be sure to thank MrPib. It wouldn’t have been released were it not for him!

Sorry again about complaining about the starfield. It wasn’t that bad, just not exact. Perfectionist that I am, I am down to the flyover section in remastering it. I just have to find the time to edit just over 400 frames to get it right.

Towne32, are you going to use the SE crawl like before, or are you going to try and get the '81 crawl from Darth Lucas that he says he’ll be done with soon (or he maybe already is)?

The crawl itself is already done and rendered into the film with 81-specific credits added to the end after the despecialized credits. If towne32 wants, I can put this into an mkv and put it on the spleen.

Only reason I haven’t done that yet is because I’m devoting my time entirely to working on my BD and helping out Williarob with other 81 crawl-related things. There’s been a lot going on in my personal life and for the time being I don’t have all that much free time to devote to hobbies like this. You may have noticed I haven’t been posting on the forum as often as usual for the past week or so.

Sorry for Off-Topic but is this really true? Because dialoge about Anakin in SW makes it quite clear that at this point Vader was not supposed to be Luke’s father.

I’ll accept PayPal donations for my hard work.

Honestly, towne32, I do very much appreciate what you accomplished in 2.7. It looks AMAZING.

And my ball-busting aside, I don’t care what other versions are created, as long as I can get my mitts on a 1977 version.

It’s not a big deal, and it isn’t as if you were wrong.

My main point is just that very few people downloaded or cared about the ANH crawl. There were no positive comments, just the few complaints.

Just doing the SE crawl like before. I love that yotusya and DL have put so much work into the 81 crawl versions. I feel bad that when I watch them, I only seem to pay attention to the faults. Things like static grain, etc, bug me than the technical accuracy of the position of the stars.

DL: Thanks for the offer! I’ve actually got the color corrected SE crawl already rendered and am just going to use that.

For some of the reasons I’ve just mentioned, I was going to avoid even dealing with the crawl. But for anyone who wants a link, please PM me for the MrPib edition. 😉

Eh, it’s fine. I just don’t understand the need people sometimes have of making sure other people don’t get the version they want, as long as it doesn’t affect the other options. I recently ranted about the exact same thing in njvc’s blu-ray thread (someone wanted to eliminate an optional BD50 option because he only liked the BD25 option). It’s funny enough that the user’s name in that case was A_New_Hope. 😃

The SW77 release would of course always have been the priority. Nothing else would’ve been released ahead of that one.

MrPib Edition! Thanks for a good laugh on a shitty Monday morning.

Some time ago someone took the time to patiently explain to me why some folks want the 97 Theatrical edition. I didn’t really understand before then the draw to anything newer than 77. (I think I asked why it’s “less evil” than the subsequently altered releases.)

Edit: CatBus explained it to me:

And I would suggest that a 1981 change, made before the film was even available on home video, is even enormously less “vandalism” than the 1997 changes, as it at least occurred in the OT era. It of course shouldn’t take priority over SW77, though.

Man, you really caught me on one of my more pro-97SE days. The “A New Hope” change was a 1981 change, though, as explained earlier. It would have theoretically been a fairly inobtrusive change, and most of the objections stem from it not actually improving anything and the poor technical execution (disregard for previous editing). In that sense, it’s like the SE changes, but that’s where the similarity ends.

I found this on spleen, but I want to make sure it’s this with NO quality loss. Can you give me the size of the file, please? Thanks!

if you found it there, it should be pretty clear if it is the official release or not.
