Looking forward to this! Will it be released on the same paradoxical site as Harmy’s original version as well?

Yep! Harmy said he’d put it up there once everything is confirmed to be fine and a comparison gallery is made.

Most excellent! I will look for it there in the future!

O.T. or No T., baby!

I think I got the “Joke” (at least I hope I did!)
Thanks for all your hard works guys, looking forward to watching the
latest, greatest version of “Star Wars”

I thought I recognized your foul stench when I entered this forum!

I’d like to know if the compression during the Episode IV opening crawl is better on the single file version as opposed to the one with the crawl options. The starfield looks a bit pixelated on the latter.

Thanks.

Well, there won’t be a dual boot option for 2.7, but for 2.6:

No, the bitrate is actually higher for that version than for the MKV, because there are no DTS-HD audio tracks. However, there are some more artifacts present in the ANH intro (for both that MKV and the dual). Didn’t really seem to be the case during the crawl, but rather during the flyover. I think it’s due to the color correction having increased saturation, combined with the blue glare present in the 2004/2011 master.

I’ll probably do a limited release of the ANH 2.7 MKV. I used the blu-ray as source rather than Respecialized. It’s a little lighter on the artifacts but still not perfect.

This is absolutely awesome, but I don’t have access to “Spleen” 😦

Is there a kind soul out there, who could help me out with an invite?

I’m feeling pretty helpful today. You should check your inbox.
With that being said, I don’t think this is the place to ask for invites, so if anybody else wants an invite you should ask elsewhere.

True. Though I agree more so because I think OT and Myspleen are both opposed to the constant invite brigade coming from this forum. Doesn’t really bother me personally in this thread, since it is so low traffic anyway.

But to anyone thinking of asking for an invite: it isn’t up there yet and it should be available via other means anyway.

If you don’t mind me asking, do you know when and where it will be available once it’s done?

It will be on myspleen and tehparadox.

Did this project die a sudden death? Thought we were real close awhile back

It’s finished. Just need to get Harmy’s final seal of approval and get it distributed and stuff.

I’ll be out of town until a week from tomorrow, so not much is going to happen with it on my end. I can send you a mega link for it though, if you want.

Finished? This is great news, I’m looking forward to seeing the changes.

I wouldn’t mind the link as well. Will make seeding even faster later 😃.

That would be lovely.

Hi,

I torrented the 18 GB Despecialized v 2,5 and watching it currently - great work!!!

However I have couple questions… why is it letterboxed??? There are black borders up and down the screen which I simply can not get rid of using VLC media player… I would like to crop it to fill the entire display area but this can not be done since it’s letterboxed. Why on earth would one letterbox any video…

Also, I notice that the film has LOTS of different audio tracks, while some commentary tracks will probably be interesting… I don’t think it’s wise to include for example Polish audio (that’s what subtitles are for)… it just bloats the size and makes people less interested in downloading and sharing it. A preservation effort which nobody/few watches hasn’t achieved its goal.

But yeah, what’s up with the letterbox thing?

Ummm… Where do I start with this.

^The letterbox is there to make it Blu-Ray compliant. VLC is perfectly capable of cropping the letterbox off if you don’t like it. If it won’t work with the standard crop settings, open tools and you can manually crop in there. Next, the other languages are there to allow people of the whole world to watch SW how they prefer. Lastly, this is the wrong thread to be posting this about, because you’re talking about the originally released Despecialized v2.5, and it’s thread is found here:

The foreign audio tracks are tiny in the scheme of things. Anyone who finds it a problem (I.e. not the many thousands who enjoy DESp) probably wasn’t going to download a 16gb file without that audio either. And those audio and subtitle tracks have proven very popular. Also keep in mind that Harmy himself is from a non English speaking country.

There’s a pretty nice avchd size release. But you’re not going to get the horrible quality 700mb 1080p blu-ray rip style release that most pirates are used to.

Thanks to anyone else who is fielding the AR question. I think I would be unable to muster as polite a response. 😃

Okay, ill try anyway: Also your cropping isn’t working because you would need to crop the left and right sides to squeeze it onto your 16:9 monitor, meaning losing actual video. That’s why it is framed the way it is. As is any decent blu ray release of material that is not 16:9. You don’t want to mutilate the film to make it fit your screen (though you are free to).

…Ah, that explains… thanks for quick reply.
Unfortunately I don’t have Blu-Rey burner.

VLC is perfectly capable of cropping the letterbox off if you don’t like it. If it won’t work with the standard crop settings, open tools and you can manually crop in there.

…Yes I found the manual crop but all it does is the same as standard settings: it crops part of the visible picture away but does not stretch it to fit the screen. It just removes pixels from visible picture.

Normally, without letterboxed video, choosing: video/crop/1,85:1 …the video crops and stretches to fit the whole display. This doesn’t happen with letterboxed for some reason (probably because the video here already fills the whole screen) I have check on “always fit window” setting, but changing it doesn’t seem to have any effect.

Sort of like my “quote” tags.

Despecialized Editions are high definition reconstructions of the theatrical versions of the
STAR WARS films. The original shots are painstakingly restored using various sources ranging
from VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, BluRay to 35mm prints.
The main goal is to get as close as possible to the original versions of the films as seen in
cinemas on opening day, while maintaining high picture and audio quality.

Not the way the VHS looked on your old 19" !

yes… and this IS the wrong thread…

Also your cropping isn’t working because you would need to crop the left and right sides to squeeze it onto your 16:9 monitor, meaning losing actual video.

…that is exactly my intention, to “mutilate” the video by cropping the sides and the remaining image filling the whole screen. I prefer watching films this way at home rather than watching the wide screen version. Only very rarely I watch them wide, if the film really benefits from seeing the sides.

And it seems to me that VLC is unable to do this on letterboxed videos. My conclusion is that this version of Star Wars works only if you want to burn it on Blu-ray. Or watch the widescreen version. Downloading this version and then wasting time on trying to figure out the cure really spoiled the viewing experience, I wouldn’t recommend this version to any casual viewer who just wants to watch the original once, which is majority of people really.
