Sadly, the Empire doesn’t know that the Zambonis are extremely slow. They’re not very effective when trying to chase down people or other speeders.

Tell that to Eddie Lebec. 😉

Unfortunately, I didn’t know his name. Poor Carla, what a tragic way to lose your husband. 😦

I’m happy that they seem to be going for practical racing rather than just green-screen stuff.

Not very surprising since Lucasfilm is using the same production approach that was used for I to VII and Rogue One.

I-III used practical effects? Okay.

And yet, they weren’t done well. One mediocre aspect can’t save a flood of awful.

It’s like McCallum bragging about how RotS did more location shooting than any other Star Wars film.

Yes, but the actors weren’t actually there for any of it!

Seriously, were there any scenes in that movie not shot on a soundstage?

Uh … some of it was a miniature XD

So I think I understand people seem to be generally happy / ok with Alden Ehrenreich being cast as young Han Solo? But I’m not so sure, since to me he looks nothing like Han Solo / Harrison Ford. When they went to such lengths to CGI Tarkin and Leia’s faces in RO, I can’t understand why they’ve chosen an actor that does not for one second (looking at photos for now anyway) convince me I am looking at a young HS…

I’m still not convinced making this movie was smart either way.

However, I have some respect for them not going full CGI Harrison Ford. When recasting a certain character, while it would be ideal that such actor/actress looks like a doppelganger, it’s a rarely the case, and even if you found someone that looked spot on, their acting ability could be shit. I’d rather have good acting than have something pretty to look at. They really lucked out on Mon Mothma in Rogue One.

Overall, my interest in this film is rather low, though not zero. Given the fact that this will come out, I believe the better mindset is to worry how well the actor “acts” Han Solo and not so much looks alone.

This. Hail, Caesar! left me very confident in his ability to pull the character off, to the point where the appearance thing doesn’t really bother me.

I still wonder if they even bothered looking at that fellow who did a movie with Harrison, (playing the younger version of his character) who is a dead ringer for Ford.

I hated that guy, so I’m fine with it if they didn’t.

Really? Did he illegally herd your Nerfs or something? ;P

Let’s just say he was a little scruffy looking.

He was an impersonator, not an actor.

Personally I’m more worried about Glover’s Lando.

Glover’s awesome, but I feel he is too goofy for the role of Lando, which should be excruciatingly suave.

Not enough people read the EU.

I’m pretty sure the movie can be a nice little comedy (à la Jump Street) with the main issue - for me - being the younger versions of main OT characters. Could have been fun to deal with a bunch of new faces with caméos of the “Empire underworld” such as Jabba, Fett, Bossk and cie (Hondo ?). Han’s introduction in ANH and Lando’s in ESB are so perfect I’m afraid this movie might ruin it.

You might as well say all actors are impersonators though, since most of the time they are effectively impersonating a fictional character and if they do it well enough, you don’t realise and it’s called “acting”. Watch the below clip, if you still say he’s not an actor after that then I don’t know what it is that you consider acting:

Sure he’s a great Harrison Ford impersonator but from what I’ve seen, he is a very capable actor and being able to personify a younger HF is only a positive in my books when looking to fill such a role.

All he’s doing in that clip is the same decent impression that he did in those cringe-y Han Solo impression youtube videos. If we were talking about a five minute flashback, fine, but there’s no way that kid’s party trick could carry an entire movie.

Doesn’t this statement cancel itself out?

Meh, the quality of the impression wasn’t what made me cringe so much as his overall vibe. He seemed really unduly pleased with himself. Anyway, to address the difference between impressions and acting, can you imagine if Chris Pine had done a Shatner impression for his Kirk? That’s what Ingruber as Han would amount to.

I might actually have had some interest in seeing Abramstrek had that been the case*.

*Even if only for the LOL factor.
