Girls/wives who like Star Wars

Author
Time

Perhaps you recall when I told you all that my wife suggested we watch the Star Wars Trilogy perhaps no more often than once per decade.

She then proceded to tell me that she would rate it about 6/10.

I realize we got married during the Dark Times, before the Fan Edits of the prequels, and I wasn't really feeling my Star Wars OatsTM at the time so I might have forgotten to stress what a nerd I was/am...

But she's pretty cool with it.  She has let me keep the giant Millennium Falcon on top of our dresser in our bedroom since Christmas... indefinitely until I can find another place to keep it.  She did the whole family costume thing last Halloween and she even pretends to listen to me when I ramble off about how great the OT really is.

So I guess I lucked out after all.  I dated other girls who were more into Star Wars... but at least one of them ended up really liking the Prequels and I know I couldn't quite put up with that.  Probably would have been grounds for divorce.

Anyways, I know at least one other forum member here (whom I won't out, but he is free to identify himself) has a rather serious SW fan for a wife... it just got me thinking: there aren't a lot of female posters here (you know who you are) and obsessive geek behaviour does seem to be carried primarily on the Y chromo...

What are your experiences with Star Wars girls?

Wife likes the OT, hates the PT.  Will consent to watching the OT once every year or so.  Doesn't get any of the other stuff (merch, books, cartoons, etc.) but neither do I for the most part.

What she really doesn't get is why I spend so much time here.

Tell her you do it for the lolz.

Yeah, I forgot to mention (though I've said it elsewhere) that my wife read the Thrawn Trilogy with me and has read all of the Legacy comics and so... she's pretty willing to play along even if she "doesn't like it."

She's always up for SciFi movies and stuff too.  Though I did have to sit through 5 hours of Pride and Prejudice again as a form of payback.  I had to make chit-chat too that proved I was paying attention.  I just hope they finish that P & P & Zombies soon so we can at least watch that version instead.

Ugh.  No SciFi is worth that.

I'm a female (most everyone here already knew this, though). ;-)

I suppose this thread would be about spouses or mates or partners or whatever who put up with our madness.

I'm in the weird, early stages, so I'm not sure what the friend-who-is-a-girl thinks about my liking of the movies.

About 15 years ago I went on a few dates with a girl who was into the EU. It was interesting ... and weird. Reminds me of the Seinfeld quote: "All of a sudden it hit me, I realized what the problem is; I can't be with someone like me. I hate myself!"

My wife tolerates my Star Wars fanatacism. She doesn't sit down with me and watch the movies, but my 2 sons do. That's good enough for me. She's even asked me if I had any interest in joining the 501st or Rebel Legions.

However, she shot down my idea to display, in our entertainment unit above the TV, all 12 vintage action figues in the original display stand. Of all the nerdy things I could do, I though that was pretty classy.

That said, if she ever tries to put an Edward Cullen picture anywhere in the living room, I swear there's gonna be a fight.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

My GF find SW uninteresting... She likes the OT better though.

I wish I could find a girl who likes Star Wars. I try to keep my nerdiness hidden around girls.
Some guys hide in a dark room and watch inter-species erotica

I hide in a dark room and watch Star Wars

I remember the first time I talked about star wars with a girl. She was very nice and pretty, but when I said STAR WARS, she looked irritated.

I think it would be hell to live with a women who hated things you like. But then that is what it is like to be a sports fan.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

That's me. I wouldn't say my wife is "rather serious", but she does enjoy them more than most. Sure, I introduced myself to her before class one day because she was watching "Empire of Dreams" on her iBook and we quote Star Wars to each other (mostly TPM because its so awful). But its kind of like Erik:

See, and he had a Star Wars wedding. I guess we have extremely tolerant wives so much that you would think they were super-fans themselves.

There have been times where she has wanted to get me to fast from coming here, but I've managed to calm her down about it. "Meeting" xhonzi and 3PX online has helped I think. ;-)

I dated a girl who hadn't seen any SW movies and didn't know anything about them except their existence. We watched a few movies and I knew I had to show them to her some day. I was just gonna show her the OT and said that the PT sucks ass and even I don't like them and I'm a fan.

So we started with SW and she wasn't very impressed with it, just that it was okay. Maybe she was being nice to me, I don't know. Then we watched Empire and she thought it was better than the first one and enjoyed it. But before we got to Jedi we broke up... :/ Maybe next time.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Imagine if you would have started with TPM. You might have gotten slapped.

LOL, yeah. But even I will never watch those awful movies again. :)

I had a girl I liked who had never seen the Star Wars movies, but this was in my Dark Times, so I actually started with TPM and RotS wasn't out yet. That was interesting, let me tell you. I later apologized and told her that the prequels and SEs suck. She said "Then why did you make me watch them?!"

I have no excuse.

Oh yeah?  I offer the following as proof!

she was watching "Empire of Dreams" on her iBook and we quote Star Wars to each other (mostly TPM because its so awful).

A lot of fans haven't watched Empire of Dreams.  Don't kid yourself, if she was watching it and there wasn't a guy there making her do it, then she's 'rather serious'.  For a girl, anyways.

I college I also dated a girl who had never ever seen any "Star Wars" movies.

Watching them with her was like seeing it for the first time. When she asked "Who does Leia end up with, Han or Luke?" I almost cried with joy.

Looking back, that's the only worthwhile thing I got out of that relationship, and we broke up before I could subject her to AOTC in theaters, which really she deserved. (bitch)

I noticed the other day that your sig corrupts the forum table slightly on IE8. FireFox is OK, however. Can you take a look?

Not sure what happened there but it was time to remove the "contructive" quote anyway.  Did that fix the problem?
