Let’s hope global warming will kill us all soon, so we don’t have to “deal” with bad movies anymore.

Does anyone realize that SW has been creatively bankrupt for 35 YEARS NOW!

Besides redlettermedia?

I was like “oh look, gf posted in Random Thoughts, I wonder if it will be a doomsaying prophecy?”

I was close.

Well the franchise is worse off than it was than in 1997. Even if Disney gives the OUT in 4K quality, we still have to deal with half a dozen films that just cover the same ground as ANH/ESB. How many times can you see AT-AT’s in a film before the audience gets bored? Disney is a far more cynical filmmaking company than prequel-era Lucas ever was.

In your opinion. Which most of the world doesn’t share.

No one has to “deal” with movies. You can ignore them (like I wish I could to you on this forum again) and the rest of us can enjoy them.

How can you ignore them when 95% of movies released today are corporate tentpole blockbusters pandering to Chinese audiences? Will anyone like it when the Star Wars franchise is reduced to two good movies and twenty mediocre ones?

Disney is not about storytelling anymore, its about EXPLOITING NOSTALGIA to make a profit.

You can find a new hobby besides not watching movies and just complaining about them.

You can’t make a movie franchise with no end in sight using elements from two movies made forty years ago. How many X-wing/ Tie Fighter battles can you make without repeating yourself? Does every protagonist in Star Wars from now on have to be a young brunette woman? How many Darth Vader knockoffs can the audience stomach? How can you innovate when you get studio yes men like Abrams and Edwards to direct your films? It’s like trying to build a skyscraper with a small box of toothpicks. It’s going to do more damage to the Star Wars brand than the four-part disappointment Lucasfilm spent over two decades making.

Does this constitute harassment?

So anytime I want to express my opinion on any given topic, I can’t say it?

I’m giving VALID points on why the new Star Wars movies are extremely limited in scope. About why they can never be great again, and the franchise’s reputation will suffer even more than it did under the prequel era.

I have seen the OT before. I can rewatch it again if I want. So why should I spend twelve dollars to see something I have watched a hundred times already?

Disney has failed on this front because they care more about shoving in familiar elements to make money off the public than taking advantage of the SW IP and giving us something new.

It’s not what you’re saying, it’s that you’re saying it at all.

I can’t wait for frevious to like TLJ and backpeddle on all this naysaying, and then for RLM to put out some bs “review” that makes him slip right back into the naysaying.

I love how Disney hasn’t announced anything past 3 sequels and two spin offs, but somehow we’re going to get 15 years of the same thing. We don’t know what else they have planned. THEY don’t know what else they’re planning.

It’s being negative for the sake of being negative, and I’ve been tired of it since the day I got here.

If generallyfrivolous was a franchise, I’d say he’s jumped the shark – numerous times – and continues jumping sharks every chance he gets.

I’m the opposite really. The ewoks are mostly okay by me, maybe just should have had some trims done in the cutting room. For me jabbas palace is the stinker in Jedi. Not Jabba himself, but all the Muppets he’s surrounded by and the excessive camp and cheese of many segments. (Fucking hate the thermal detonator sequence. If I ever get around to finishing my edit of rotj I’m removing it entirely and just having it inferred Leah and chewie are already there. ) marks performance in Jedi is great enough to not want to dismiss the film entirely though.

Jabba’s palace is too much at times. Leah and Chewie scene is perfectly fine with me. Mark’s acting is mostly good, but there is the occasional scene or at least moment where he misses the mark (when he gets handed over to Vader on Endor comes to mind).

Who cares man? In a few decades nobody will give a **** about the prequels or Disney movies. They will eventually be scrapped and become lost films. This site is about preserving the classics: the OOT.

Anything that would render the PT, ST, and Anthology films lost films would probably end up doing the same to the OT.

They make backup 35mm prints of digital masters just in case, don’t they? 😉

Where were you in '77?

Yeah, but if the EMP destroys civilization as we know it, those prints might deteriorate long before we recover.
