Stumbled onto this alternate 1980 Coca-Cola poster I'd never seen before...
Boris Vallejo's paint work is fantastic and much more fantasy styled than than most posters but the Duel-Lightsaber-wielding Vader looks hilarious to me. Almost like he could be shouting "Yeaaarrggh f**k the Rebels!"
I think it's the small size of the sabers that makes the image look silly. If they were closer in size to the film sabers then it would look much better.
Oh, and Vader's oversized arms/hands probably don't help any, either.
It's called artistic license. If we're going to nitpick posters, Luke never had the muscles depicted on this one anymore than Leia showed that much leg, or had such impressive space knockers in the movie. ;)
I want to see action figures based on this.
I have a Luke action figure that looks like that! Let me see if I can find a pic...
JEDIT: It's the one on the right
He's from back in the nineties, got him when I was a kid. The boots aren't quite right but he's got the muscles.
Oh yeah. I'm not sure what Kenner/Hasbro was thinking with the Galaxy Far Far Away takes steroids look, but I imagine Mark was happy with it. ;)

Which, quite honestly, is a shame.
She was so beautiful. She put thoughts in the mind of this 15-year-old. ;-)

Once again, Cracked misses the boat. The DS is the size of a small moon, not the size of our moon.

I'm glad that scene of Luke constructing his lightsaber was cut from ROTJ. Not only would it have been a lame way to introduce his new green-bladed weapon, but Vader's dialogue to Luke is just an uninspired rehash of his dialogue to Luke from the end of TESB.
What else can Vader say to Luke to tempt him? Come to the dark side, and I'll buy you a puppy? ;)
How Luke doesn't go nuts with Vader Force messaging him all the time is a miracle. I don't think Yoda taught him the Jedi voicemail trick.
IIRC, wasn't it debated around here whether Vader's lines in that were a recent addition to make that unfinished scene more complete?

I think there was a theory that, during the original shooting, Vader was supposed to make contact with Luke right there in the hangar, briefly and wordlessly and that maybe it was changed in post in 83 from the original concept, and cobbled together from a lot of other bits. (Vader in the chamber is from EMPIRE, Vader walking down the corridor may actually be from the Jerjerrod scene, some of the dialogue). Not sure.
Another interesting bit of ILM film up for auction. The original ESB emperor, with a bit of camera slate apparently showing the tv monitor the footage was rephotographed off of to get the hologram look.

I went to the antique shop today but couldn't spend to long. I thought I hadn't found anything, then, right as I was about to leave, I looked at a shelf and found this:
I'm sure some of you guys are familiar with it. It's very awesome, it's got the shooting script, concept art, all the posters, and spin-off cartoons and fan art. It's a true gem, and I got it for only $9, which is pretty good I think considering it's a first edition hardcover (though it's missing its sleeve).
All in all, a very exciting purchase.
I still have mine, (softcover) but the pages are all loose. Post 1997 reprints added an SE chapter.
Pre internet, it was one of the few ways to see all that material.

I remember signing that book out from the local library back around 2002. I was disappointed that the Vader vs. Deak painting wasn't included amongst the featured concept art.
This reminds me of AOTR. ;)

I think I'm offended. ;-)
Those vintage posters are great, completely original and well drawn out.

I just love all these insiders with their insider info! Can we offer him a special "I Am Ready For The Trials" membership to OriginalTrilogy? I mean, we should honor such treasure troves otherwise we'd never discover things like ... all our Star Wars color correction is .. flat .. out .. wrong ...
goHastings The Star Wars Deluxe Edition ad:

Spaced Ranger you do know that THE STAR WARS is a comic series based on the original rough draft right?
'Nuff said? Gentlemen, start your color corrections!

I bought one of the vista vision film frames he had up for auction and I'm a watching a few more. I think there are a few buyers who are sniping (buying at the last second) his stuff so if theres something you want you'll have to spend some money on a high early bid. You could go broke on all his stuff though its so tempting.
Do any of you guys like to delve into the technological aspects of SW? I enjoyed reading the Incredible cross-sections for example.
I love those as well. I also love the Guide to the Wildlife of Star Wars, or whatever the heck it's called. That stuff is better than most of the EU, in my opinion.

there's a really nice couple of frames from the window shot of ESB, but it's so faded that it's just two-toned:
My best shot at pulling color out:
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
Demonstrating that two-toned is a lot less two-toned than it looks.
ESB: Dawn of the Dead.

That's comparatively pretty good ..
.. especially considering that the auction frame has allot of the RED blown-out. What procedure did you use and how long did that procedure take?
Some familiar faces in Rifftrax's new animated intro.
