Apparently George Lucas doesn't know the plot of TFA. I guess the outline he hashed out was more of a 'collection of vague ideas' which Abrams may have discarded.

That's a very vague statement that people are building a mountain out of. From what he said it's entirely possible they're still using his story outline but he doesn't know how they've fleshed it out.

Is it weird that I want to see his new experimental films? And not because I think they'll be bad. Lucas is a fairly interesting director visually and it'd be cool to see him make a micro budget film along the lines of Koyaanisqatsi.

Oh, yeah, I'd love to see those too. And I think, if he doesn't count on making a profit on those films, it would be pretty easy to just put them out on-line for free or for a small fee.

George has been trotting out that tired old "I'm going back to my roots as a film maker" story for thirty years.

He never left his roots behind--the roots are still there, hidden at the foot of the mountains (beneath which the King sleeps, until he should come again one day).

Perhaps you can find these roots, if you journey to the Well at the World's End, or the Wood Beyond the World, or sail on the Water of the Wondrous Isles.

But he is, after all, a modest fellow. He hides his light under a bushel.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

+1 for the William Morris references.  Check out Jurgen and King of Elfland's Daughter if you haven't.  :)

Some new leaked concept art.

Vader & Flametroopers/Immolator Troopers/Incinerator Troopers

Max Von Sydow

GunShip/Guppy/TRI-Fighter

If I remember correctly, Vader has been used as a placeholder for multiple pieces of concept art.

Looks awesome though.

Welp, it finally happened:

After telling us in December he hadn’t seen the much talked-about trailer for Abrams’ movie, Lucas added on Saturday he has since seen it, “I saw the trailer. I saw it in a theater because I don’t watch movies online.”

When asked if he liked it, he smiled. “Yeah, it was intriguing.”

There's also been rumors of a flashback scene

 Much to everyone's dread.

I'd be concerned that a flashback scene might suck, but I don't think I'm going to lose any sleep about them 'not belonging' in SW storytelling. It's not unreasonable that flashbacks would first show their heads after a 30 year gap in the story.

There was a rumor that Fisher's daughter was going to play Leia in a (or the) flashback scene, but I believe that was debunked.

I'm really hoping we end up with zero pictures\flashbacks\homages\etc to Vader.  Star Wars can easily exist without him.

If Daisy, John, Oscar, and Adam are as good as they're rumored to be (and it appears they are), the film and story are in good hands.

So, does that mean George isn't a consultant or adviser for the ST?  Does he really have NOTHING to do with ST?  I'm not sure what to believe since his son supposedly said in an interview that his father was talking to Abrams on a weekly basis at some point.

Great to hear! I said from the beginning they shouldn't use his treatments, and that they were cursed.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

If GL's treatments weren't used for ESB, Yoda wouldn't exist and Vader wouldn't be Luke's father.

Georgie-boy rewrote ESB, putting in the "I am your father" bit--it was not in any pre-script "treatment".  And although RotJ was the first entire movie (arguably) signaling the end, "I am your father" was the first moment that signaled that the expansion of the SWverse had ended, and a cataclysmic contraction was at hand.
