Easy just stay away from any media until you’ve seen the film… Simples

Another thread at this point is going to make more work for us mods. I want to remain spoiler free too, but I also have to make sure people play nice around here.

Some people might not see the movie for the first time until weeks later, painful as that sounds. They will simply have to tough it out.

Another TFA thread is only going to cause more clutter and confusion around here. Tweaking the title, as was done when the trailer dropped, should be enough.

If the title is to be tweaked, you will have to do it, as I have not yet discovered a way of changing it on the new forum software.

That head of Rey is kinda creeping me out.

Yeah, I was wondering what that was used for.

Also, did anyone notice the grey Maz Kanata head in between the big Bossk-looking guy’s legs? It looks like Kanata anyway. I’m assuming it was made to be scanned by the CG-artists.

It could be a mask for a stunt double to wear? No more pasting an actor’s head on someone else’s body. 😉

Is anyone else kind of fascinated by the character of Kylo Ren? Besides the obvious anagram name Kylo (Skywalker/Solo), there’s the actor himself. I’m not a fan of HBO’s show “Girls” but every interview I have seen with Adam Driver he just comes off as so down to earth. It makes me really very interested to see how that kind of fellow would play someone with presumably very complex motivations like Kylo Ren.

Also equally fascinating about this character is his costume design. I understand that the costume designer and Abrams really agonized on the look of Kylo. I’m not a fan of the EU (now legacy) but as I understand it the mask is something of a nod to Darth Revan. The cloak looks like something i can’t quite explain but there are also garments under the cloak that look almost samurai in nature. Then there’s his unique lightsaber design which, as I have read, Jony Ive from Apple might have suggested to Abrams that this character have an ‘unwieldy’ weapon. Very rough around the edges.

There’s also this, POSSIBLE SPOILER: when Kylo and Finn confront each other Kylo’s mask is knocked off, revealing that he is in some way disfigured. Which is why in the various advertisements and trailers, during that momentary interlude with Finn, we don’t see Kylo’s face; only the back of his head.

Obviously, we’ll know for sure in a few days, but piecing together various sources and theories, it would seem as though Kylo is perhaps the son of Leia & Han and that he is, perhaps, a black sheep of the family who is very much estranged from his parents or in denial, or both. Either way, I can’t wait to find out how this all unfolds. The trailers feel like they are note perfect in their presentation of the material, every beat is perfectly timed. Fingers crossed.

Thoughts?

One of the masks in that picture belongs to an alien of the same species as Zeb in Rebels.

This is allegedly Snoke from the Art of The Force Awakens book. Surprise surprise, it seems like the Plagueis tracing was indeed a fake.

I took this screen shot from the new Chinese trailer and I couldn’t help but notice that one of the Knights of Ren had a very Vader-like feature to his helmet, even more so than Kylo. The I took a look at the guy on the far right and his helmet kind of reminded me of Boba Fett. Am I just imagining it, or does his helmet have a visor shaped roughly the same way and Fett’s helmet in the OT?

EDIT: That thing that I compared to Boba Fett’s antennae thing, is actually on his back. Of course even that makes him look kinda like Fett, resembling his jetpack-rocket thingy.

This is what I imagine Jason Voorhees would have looked like had he been a three-pack-a-day smoker.

I agree that Driver comes across as grounded and appreciative. Judging from interviews, people seem to really enjoy working with him. I’ve only seen him in one thing (Here’s Where I Leave You). He was very good in that.

Looking forward to this for sure. I like what we’re seeing and what is being hinted at so far; a character who is a bit unhinged, including his fabricated saber. He appears dangerous for reasons other than misguided power. He looks more like it’s misguided anger.

The whole group of Ren could be a sort of radicalized or idealistic break-away faction complicating an already dangerous dynamic.

In the NPR version of Star Wars, there’s a second layer of dishonest military leaders who hint that they could break off from the Empire and further muddy the Empire/Rebellion relationship. They don’t act on it, but they are aware of it and you get the feeling they’ve weighed the possibility.

Maybe The Ren are a similar group, but didn’t err on the side of discretion. They may have decided to take matters into their own hands. Not at all unlike modern day geopolitical relationships.

Fixed, although I haven’t actually seen the movie for myself.

They’ve released a few set pictures of Driver without the mask. Unless that’s deliberate misdirection, it looks like he’s undamaged. I’d be just fine with that. We don’t need everyone in the GFFA to have some sort of physical damage. His story sounds plenty compelling. Less is more.
