Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 200

I don’t know if this entirely puts the kibosh on the “Finn will die” rumours but he’s one of the four actors listed on IMDb’s Episode VIII page.

I absolutely hope Finn does not buy it. It would be a slap in the face to tons of black kids who might find a role model in Finn or John Boyega himself, especially when there’s a dearth of leading roles for black people due to discrimination in Hollywood. I would easily forgive plot holes or Abrams copy and pasting the story of the very first film, but killing Finn off before the end of this first movie would be an awful bait and switch.

I think I brought this up last time the possibility of Finn dying came up, but a few months ago when everyone was talking about Tatiana Maslany and Gina Rodriguez and that other actress I don’t remember circling a part in Episode VIII, weren’t they supposed to have done chemistry reads with Boyega? I know that was never confirmed, but it seemed reasonable enough. I’ve never for a second thought Finn would die, though. With all of that talk about how they’re passing the torch to the new characters, I doubt they’re going to kill one of the two or three most prominent of those new characters immediately.

For those of you counting the days, hours, minutes, and seconds left to go, a countdown timer to the movie has been added to the front page. Courtesy of Anchorhead and Jay.

I’m pretty sure that someone here on the forum, that is those that aren’t from the US, will see TFA a day or two earlier than that countdown timer shows.
I definitively will, and I’m going into an internet “blackout” starting the 15th since that’s TFA’s earliest release date, and I don’t want any spoilers.

The clock is based on the U.S. release date. Sorry international fans.

The first new thing on the front page in six years ought to be cause for celebration around here. 😉

The world premiere is the 14th, so you might want to adjust your blackout.

Oh, certainly, I was just being nitpicky.

Right, forgot about that one.
Although that’s mostly just the filmmakers, actors, guests (e.g. Lucas), etc, though isn’t it? Porbably not a larger risk of spoilers, but I’ll keep it in mind.

I think there are plenty of guests who know those involved or work elsewhere in hollywood. It only takes one person and one internet to spoil every single detail in the film.

Good point, I will extend my “blackout” the 14th as well then.

I know a couple people who have been able to big blockbuster premieres. One owned a small west coast theater chain, another was related (through marriage) to one of the X-men First Class stars, and got a ticket despite having only met her twice or so. Surely harder to get into the TFA premiere, but still will be some random folks.

Anyway, Starwars.com is live broadcasting the lead up to the premiere and the red carpet nonsense involved. So as soon as that ends would be the ideal time to cut the cord.

I followed the link and poked around a bit. Really nice to see the respect being paid to the originals. Their Film page uses the original one-sheets for the OT.

I wont be seeing Force Awakens until Sunday morning. I’ll have step lightly around here myself for a few days.

This place is certainly going to get interesting after this movie comes out. I expect a very wide variety of opinions here. Hopefully, they’ll skew positive. BTW, what’s going to happen with two Episode VII threads? Will this be the one to continue, or is there going to be new post-movie release made?

Maybe keep these threads running for a short time as a sort of safe space for people who haven’t seen the actual film yet and start a new one for those who have?

The non-spoiler one should be straight forward. What would this one be renamed to that specifies pre-release spoilers are okay but not actual film spoilers?

Some people might not see the movie for the first time until weeks later, painful as that sounds. They will simply have to tough it out.

Another TFA thread is only going to cause more clutter and confusion around here. Tweaking the title, as was done when the trailer dropped, should be enough.

Guess I’ll have to do some excavations to see what we did ten years ago. Not like we thought we’d ever have new SW movies to discuss ever again.😉

JEDIT:Wow! We had an unholy mess of threads about Episode III back then! Let’s not do that again!

Well, the thread is called “THE FORCE AWAKENS (EPISODE VII) DISCUSSION” so I’d be kinda weird if we couldn’t discuss The Force Awakens in the The Force Awakens discussion thread.
You could put some emphasis on it being a “spoiler thread” though, just in cast.

The only issue is that many of the non-spoiler thread people avoid everything. So if there are people that keep up with the news yet haven’t seen it, they have no specific thread. Or, they need to be extra cautious about what they read in this one, and what they post in the other one.

Me?

Yes. I suppose the people who are fine with general spoilers, but not to the point of people actually discussing the film they have just seen in very explicit detail, are going to either have to just play nice in the other thread or simply avoid internet discussion of TFA for a few days.
