Love it.
^ This one photo is the single most important piece of news about the ST yet. If JJ & co are worrying about these little details, then we can breath a sigh of relief that SW is back in the hands of people who know SW. Hurray!
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.
Love it.
Hey.....Chewie looks like Chewie!!!
Was the ROTS one just a bad dream?

That was one thing that i was worried about; were they going to go with the Ep3 costume? Thank god they have given us the old and better Chewie :)
Saves you a lot of work on the eventual Sequel Trilogy Revisited project, eh?
=P
Keep Circulating the Tapes.

If this is how much care they are putting into the production....I really cant wait to see the Falcon

The ST has really brought back everyone being positive about a SW movie, just with simple photos of the real Chewy from the OT days.
I was very hesitant when the ST was announced, but I am just going to enjoy the ride now and keep my fingers crossed!
Hopefully this link works, but here is an early Episode 7 poster from MTV.com:

Yes very positive but don't click on that link everybody, it'll only depress you all again. We don't need to see all the ST cast dressed up in PT costumes.

Oh Wow ! So excited again after seeing that Chewie picture.
Just awesome.
The relief that it isn't the Chewie costume from the sixth film seems prevalent. Should I look up how he was portrayed, or will that be something I'm sorry I saw?
I'm somewhat curious, but hesitant.

Their redesign in ROTS never made any sense to me. As there were Wookiees in TPM and they looked like they fell right out of the OT:
I had no doubt they would portray Chewie with the "correct" costume, although I am somewhat surprised they didn't insert just a few extra gray/white colored hairs in there (or maybe they did, can't tell). Anyway, I'm very happy to see another picture too :)
Backslick (SW & TESB)
Glam metal (ROTJ)
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

I liked the ROTJ Chewie hairdo but that was down to some special undercover disguise that was needed in SOTE if I remember correctly *not canon* ;-)

O_o As far as I'm aware, Chewbacca's disguise in SOTE was never used as an explanation for Chewie's appearance in ROTJ. I don't even see how it could have been given that they gave him a buzzcut:

IIRC, they took one of the original Chewie suits out of storage and recolored the fur for TPM.
The funny thing is, Tarfful and the other Episode III Wooks look better than Chewie did in the movie. I presume it was another attempt at making an OT character look younger, ala Creepy Puppet Yoda.
Where were you in '77?

Ugh. It's like a Halloween mask.
Worse still, all those overpriced Rubies Chewbacca costumes are based on the Episode III look. :(
I hope their license runs out soon.

There are conflicting reports on that. It's also been said that it was sculpted by John Coppinger for TPM. It certainly looks like it could be a repurposed Chewie costume but you have to wonder how well it would have held up after 15 years.
Edit: Scratch that, just looked up an old interview with Coppinger and in it he confirms it's a repurposed suit.
One of my best days in filmland was being in an original Wookiee suit for the voting scene in The Phantom Menace. It’s a powerful experience being ‘inside’ such an iconic character – grown men and women turn into little children when confronted by a Wookiee. And two years ago I finally got the chance to thank Peter Mayhew for not coming over to the UK to play the part!
Peter Mayhew has said he wore an original suit for the MTV Movie awards in '97. I doubt any of the publicity suits Lucasfilm has would fit him!
I think this was the moment I began thinking, "gee, wouldn't it be great if they were making sequels?" ;)

This is one reason why I don't have much love for SOTE.

Is that the revisited version ;)
That image is really fantastic,....IT IS Chewie!!....looking exactly as he does ruffled in ROTJ
The costume for ROTS was so different, obviously trying to improve his look but failing

I had never put the pieces together with the SOTE explanation for the ROTJ hair. I agree that I don't think it was ever explicitly stated, but it does make sense.
I guess the real question is why they decided to change Chewie's haircut going into production on RotJ.
Surely Rinzler knows?
Oh my god. For some reason, I never noticed until now that Chewbacca's hair is different in ROTJ. Mind blown.
