Well, this project slowly plods along.  I have over 3,000 pictures just in my ANH folder!  That's not to say that they are all unique, as I know there are several duplicates.  Some are different scans of varying quality, some have higher PSI, and some are cropped to include more.  I want to select the best pictures, so I am organizing them on Windows Live Movie Maker and then will be pruning so the best remain.  In a few cases, I may include duplicates of largely identical pictures, simply because each might have an advantage over the other (i.e. one was cropped to include more, but the other is larger and more detailed).  This is a very time consuming process.  Further difficulty comes from the fact that I have to make sure I don't include pictures that are actually in the film.  Usually I can remember very well, but I'd hate to delete a shot that is not actually in the movie.  So after I get it all organized, I will have to watch the film side by side with my slideshow and remove pictures that are just screencaps of the actual film.  But again, progress continues, even if anyone who cares thought otherwise.

uhhhhh...... 3000 pics only in anh?

how many pics you have from star wars?

do you release all in one movie (dvd/avi?) or for each episode a single movie?

Author

Don't worry, when I've weeded out the weaker duplicates, I'll probably have "only" around 1,500.  Of course that's just a very rough guess.  I'm sure I can fit all the OT on a single DVD, but I believe I'll probably have to separate the two trilogies.  I only plan on showing each picture for a few seconds.

Alright, I am going to ask for help.  My time is terribly limited, but I would like to get this done eventually.  I need help organizing the various photos, and it is surprisingly time consuming.  I am already a good chunk of the way through ANH, but if I could get two separate people who might be willing to organize ESB and ROTJ chronologically somewhat, I'd be very, very grateful.  This project continues to plod along.  Post or PM me, and I can give you a link and instructions.  Thanks :)

Ok, seems noone else is frothing at the bit to jump on this so I'm game for helping you out. I have a rather busy work schedule but I'd be happy to fill in where I can. Just PM me with instructions and I'll see what I can do for you.

Thanks TK :)  I've been pretty tied up the past couple of days, but I'll write you probably tonight or tomorrow to let you know what I need.  Thanks a bunch :)

I'm from Germany and have no time to read all old post here, so sorry if I talk about something, that has been already discussed.

I want to make just a Bonus-Disc with Deleted scenes to the original theatrical version of the trilogy. As DVD and/or Blu Ray. Mostly I want to make color corrections and picture cleaning to the official Blu Ray deleted scenes.

Can someone recreate the deleted Jabba Scene from "a new hope" with the actor Declan Mulholland in HD? The available version of a reconstruction is bad because you can see the stencils and the quality differences of the sources, also a color correction is missing and the aspect ration is wrong:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCdZ11BM-6Y

The documentary "From Star Wars to Jedi", which is only available on VHS in US and UK and Laserdisc in Japan, contains the half scene in 4:4 aspect ration. And the sound is also not complete, Mark Hamil, as the main narrator, is talking about the scene while it is showing.

And I also want to see the final version from 1997 in HD, with and without original cinema subtitles. If someone needs some source, I have a DVD Transfer from a 1997 German Laserdisc, with original German cinema subtitles.

I have no material to reconstruct the Jabba scene, only a DVD-Transfer of the 1997 German Laserdisc, the bad reconstruction in the youtube version, the official DVD and Blu Ray and the UK VHS "From Star Wars to Jedi".

If someone could send me all existing material from the scene with Declan Mulholland, in the best available quality, that would be great.

I would try to made a better reconstruction with the apple program "Final Cut Pro 7", but first someone have to send me the material.

I would try to make it like Harmy described how he made his despecialised reconstruction of the movie in this Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHfLX_TMduY

I hope someone can soon help me with my project.

Jambe Davdar's documentary called Star Wars Begins is as complete a version of the Jabba scene with Mulholland available.  It's not hard to find, though I can point you in the right direction if you need further help.

Next time, start a new thread and do not post the exact same thing in multiple places. That can be misconstrued as spamming this board, which is frowned upon.

I know it, youtube uses the same source, but as I said, the reconstruction is bad because you can see the stencils and the quality differences of the sources, the color correction is not perfect and the aspect ration is wrong. I need all original sources which he used, to try to make my own version.

If you contact Jambe, tell him that his reconstruction is bad and that you can do better, I'm sure he'd be happy to supply you with his sources.*

In case you didn't see it in my thread here, here's a little video I made of the scenes, that were in the ROTJ Trailer, but not in the movie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xClYZmolp-c

I hadn't gone to your thread, though I was certainly aware of all the cool clips in the trailer not found in the film.  It is nice to find most (I noticed a couple you are still missing) in a single video to highlight what was not in the final film.  The ones you are missing might be from one of the other ROTJ trailers.  Thanks for the video :)

Since I haven't actually updated this thread in a while, I'll let those who are interested know that some real progress has been coming along.  After organizing my thousands of pictures into smaller folders related to different parts of the films, and then working on smaller slideshows, I've been moving at a much more reasonable pace.  It's still surprisingly time consuming, as I have numerous versions of almost every picture I have, and after putting them in proper order, I have to determine which version(s) I wish to keep, often based on cropping so I can see the most picture, but also trying to include the highest rez versions.  On top of that, some of the pictures need some serious editing to improve the color or straighten them out.  But overall I'm pleased and don't feel so discouraged at my progress.  I must give a big thank you to benduwan who has always been so willing to help, and in this case helped organize the ESB pics so I can more easily put them in their slideshows.  I've also got help from someone at trekbbs for ROTJ, so this project may actually get done this year!

Will this project include the new clips from the ebooks?

Author

Most definitely!  I hope to include everything released.  Sorry it's taking so darn long, but I assure you I'm making progress, even if I'm not posting updates regularly.

I know many folks are working on far more elaborate and time consuming projects than I.  However, I feel that my time has become more and more limited, and I seldom have the motivation anymore to work on the slideshows of the various deleted pictures.  To make it more complex, numerous new pictures are often released in combination with various projects, such as the recent "Making of..." ebooks.  I feel I can never even keep up with the pictures, and has become quite discouraging.

That said, I don't want anyone thinking this project is about to disappear.  However, it will not be so glamorous as I'd originally intended.  What I believe I will do is organize my various pictures and clips into folders with explanatory txt or docx files to describe what the viewers are seeing.  There will be numerous, fairly organized folders with various clones of existing pictures, though usually there are some that are superior to others in one way or another.

This method of organization will then be faster, will still be useful, and can provide others who wish to take the time to organize such pictures with the opportunity to do so.  All the pretty nifty clips I have will be included.  It should still be pretty amazing to folks once they see what I've collected.

I apologize for the weak format, but otherwise I fear the project will never get released.  I want to devote more time to my family and not feel guilty that I'm not getting this project done.  I'll try to get it organized in my much simpler fashion in the near future, then I'll make it available to all.  I can't think of anything else I'd want to add to it at the present anyway.

I don't think you need to apologize for setting a finishing point on this project. I started saving set photographs from star wars for a short while and the amount soon became dizzying, as there seems to exist for any given shot  dozens of angles, sizes and colourations. It became too confusing to sort after a while so I just deleted the folder. I'm sure the massive collection you've assembled will make a valuable resource even as is without a slide show movie, and its great that you are willing to share it with the community.
