I got the ID4, thanks Boris.  And you are correct about the original DTS trailer.  I have not found it on video anywhere, all we have is the audio.  I guess if someone had a JP print we could get it figured out.

When I suggested the Digital Experience trailer, I meant a preservation of the more familiar "stand-alone" version, from a cinema disc. Boris said he had some trailer discs, and I'd love to hear a perfect theatrically-accurate version (as opposed to one from LD or DVD).

Someone is offering a 35mm trailer lot that includes a DTS trailer. It would indeed be cool to have a 35mm scan to sync up with the audio, so we can finally have a high-def version of the trailer.

Saw this on LDDB about Evita:

"The DVD, Criterion LD, DTS LD and standard LD all used the same director approved video transfer. The DVD and AC-3 encoded LD's used a 16-bit audio master that was remixed slightly for home use. The DTS LD utilized a 20-bit master taken from the same master used to make the theatrical digital sound prints and thus the DTS Digital Surround LD sounds quite a bit different, and better, than the DVD and AC-3 LD releases. Because of the changes to the AC-3 versions, the DTS LD needs THX re-equalization for proper playback in the home while the other releases do not."

Would really love that DTS track.

Yeah, that's it, but the version shown in theaters didn't have the DTS logo zoom back like that. Notice that the entire image pulls back. That was done in telecine when it was transferred for 16x9 anamorphic DVD release, because the framing was tighter on the second half. (I was just a kid then, but I distinctly remember either "THIS THEATRE FEATURES" or "SOUND" sometimes being partially cut off in the theaters where I saw it flat.)

That, plus the general lack of an HD video source for the trailer, is why a 35mm flat copy would be so great. It could be scanned in high-res, synced up with a cinema disc, and included as a separate track set to play before the film if one were to burn a Blu-ray/theatrical DTS sync to BD. It would complete the recreation of the DTS cinema experience.

This guy did a mind-blowing near-4k scan of the original SDDS trailer, with his own DIY rig.

God I wish we got SDDS at home or at least more SDDS8 derived soundtracks

This may be the version you're looking for (preview doesn't work, just download to view).

For reference only: it's captured from a second generation VHS copy, recorded off a 35mm print that the VHS owner tells me has long since gone. So this is as good as this source will get, but it might be of some use to help re-edit/reframe the versions we have.

(By the way, no idea how DTS sound ended up on the VHS HiFi track. Do DTS processors have an analogue monitoring output? Guess so...)

There was no Batman Forever DTS mix, Just SDDS and Dolby

God I wish we could get SDDS 8 mixes 

Apparently only Batman & Robin got the DTS treatment.  Now, one could make their own DTS mix with the proper audio and software but it wouldn't be cinema DTS.

As for SDDS, I have no knowledge on if it's even possible to rip and convert to something useable for educational purposes.  I haven't seen anything available but I haven't really looked either.  I'm a DTS-head.  LOL

I love sdds 8 when it worked it was near unbeatable

If anyone had the prints with SDDS on it I'd suspect they would be able to record it .... but it would then have to be processed to SDDS specs.  Right now I'm working on converting the audio reels I have to .wav to prepare them for future use in projects.

I WISH someone would want to scan my 35mm trailer for TPM so we could get some color timing ideas and marry the DTS audio to the trailer for a real nice bonus.

Too bad we can't find some sort of mechanized way to rip and patch the reels together.  That'd make getting these out a lot easier.

I can extract the reels with an LFE channel included but marrying the reels together the way they are supposed to be heard is what's hard. 

Having a way of putting them together without losing anything would make it far easier to release as I've got a nice little collection of discs going since you and Eldonante inspired me ......  :)

All three Nolan Films were released in DTS.  I wish the first 2 got DTS-HD MA audio on the blu rays only the third film is up to snuff.  The first film Begins is one of the worst transfers on BD needs an update.

I mean even if any one has the Batman Begins discs they would be no way to get the audio off of them kind of like Revenge of the Sith.

I mean the Cinema Discs not the Blu rays that is easily done.

ROTS has been decoded.  As for the Nolan films, I will add them to the list.

The Nolan films do have their original mix on the Blurays. Even if the container format (DTS, Dolby) has changed, the mix will remain the same. Unless I'm mistaken, I believe they just ported over the theatrical mixes. They sound good.
