Great forum. I was going to buy the blu-ray SW set but after reading about all the additional tinkering lucas has done i decided not to buy it.
I was wondering if the original trilogies are available on DVD/LD?
If not what are the best fan edits?
Would appreciate any info!

There are many fan edits. Star Wars Revisited is considered the best of the bunch.
The original trilogy is only available used at this point (on both DVD and LD). You might be interested in some of the preservation efforts you can find in the appropriate forum on this very site. They are actually the best quality releases of the original films. The preservation efforts by the members Harmy and DarkJedi are considered the cream of the crop.

LD is an oboslete format and discs are only available second hand. Try eBay.
The 2006 DVD releases include George's Original Unaltered Trilogy (GOUT) on the "bonus discs". These DVDs are getting harder to find but are still available - check out this thread for advice on purchasing.

There isn't really any "definitive" version, each one has its own set of problems.
You just have to decide which problems bother you most, which problems bother you least, and weigh the pros and cons.
