Create your own Title Crawl at StarWars.com

It's not very often that anything appears at the official site that is worth a shit, but I thought this was kinda neat.  You can create your own Title Crawl.  For folks like me that only wish they knew how to do edits and such, it's kinda fun.

Here's the one I created:

http://www.starwars.com/games/playnow/crawl_creator/?cs=vmkumjwrr5

Create your own and share them!

Make your own from scratch at this link:

That's a pretty neat idea indeed that they've come up with there.  :)

I guess this explains why Lucasfilm forcibly shut down the site of the fan who created essentially the exact same thing a couple years back.

If the person or persons who invented the receding title crawl for many an old movie serial were still alive, they could sue Lucas! ;)

After reading this I couldn't resist making this crawl.

Episode Special Editions

In case it gets pulled by the site here's what I typed.
Spoiler:

Episode special editions
Screwing With The Fans

Forever being re-done. The Star Wars Trlogy will never be the same as it was before. No longer just thought of as a trilogy of greatness.

A saga of COMPUTER GENERATION villifying the memories of what went before.

For could Jar-Jar never exist the saga may have been victorious! Alas our only hope is Doc Brown and, his DELOREAN TIME MACHINE. So hop on in, fasten your seatbelts, ramp up to 88. Where we're going we don't need roads....

Mabye I shouldn't have done this but, I haven't slept in two days... Well okay that's not true I got like twenty minutes but, some damn thing making noise outside woke me up so it doesn't count!!!

What little remains is on the internet archive...

I started a thread on here before it was yanked.

That was weird to watch while on the official site.

Not as good as the app the other guy came up with.

I still have it on my computer and it works rather well.

Ah, I see.  Thanks SilverWook, that's interesting, as I hadn't seen that thread of yours before.

I noticed that Sluggo foresaw at the time, that the idea would probably end up on the 'official' site eventually....  ;)

Agreed that it seems kinda ironic that it can be used to type *anything* up for sending off to various sources now, lol.  Even for views that they probably wouldn't wish it to be used for....

By the way Bingowings, can you maybe give an idea of the way that guy's original version differs from this 'official' one sometime?  I'm curious to know how they differ.  Thanks.

I hate being right about that.  Lame that it took LFL 2 years to get their not as awesome version on their site.

I was checking out what I thought was the one being referred to for JediTray earlier today and it seems I must be talking about another version because the one I was referring to is still active (though only available for Macs as yet the guy has made the source code available for any of you with programing skills wish to translate it to other formats).

Here are still of a crawl I have made with this app and as you can see it's closer to the real thing than the one on the SW.COM.

Crawl

It's really easy to use too.

Reminds me of how they made their own "Han Shot First" t-shirt. Lucas actually wearing one on the Indy 4 set still feels like a bird flip. ;)

Wow.  If anyone can get that Mac one to operate on a PC, please let me/us know!

Thanks for showing that!  :)

It's one of the coolest apps. I've ever come across.  There's no doubt that the quality of that guy's version is very impressive compared to the 'official' one.  (Why should I be surprised?)

It mentions at the bottom of that info. page you linked to, that someone called 'Darth Revan' is going to be doing a port for PCs too!  Great stuff.

Also, when I followed a couple of links on that page, it led me to this, which I presume is the guy that came up with it.  There seems to be some neat stuff worth having a look at sometime -  http://alienryderflex.com/tutorials.shtml

That conversion announcement has been there for as long as I can remember linking to that page so don't hold your breath.

You can't beat the more hands on approach for getting rid of the 'rivers' of black in between words (something that looks awful on the SW.COM thing which is really just for fun) but it's not bad and you can save in a variety of resolutions.

You just fill in the fields and let it chug away.

How do faneditors do custom crawls for their SW edits?  Couldn't you just do the same?
