Can you copy DVDs with iDVD? DVD-R newbie needs help please......

Ok, so I just got my first new computer in 9 years (the old iMac finally croaked- at least the modem did) and so now I have a Macbook with a superdrive cd/dvd DL burner and I have no idea how to use it! LOL!

I'm trying to do a PiF by making a copy of a fan edit that someone sent me, so I copied the TS_video folder onto the hard drive (is that what I'm supposed to do 1st?) and then opened up iDVD to try and burn a copy of it onto a blank DVD-R but I can't figure it out.

Can you even do this in iDVD or do I need different software?

Help! Thanks in advance. :-)

(PS-before you yell at me, I DID do a search, but I'm still unclear as to whether or not iDVD can copy DVDs)

From it's web page, iDVD looks like a DVD authoring tool - which is not what you want.

Could you use Disk Utility to create an image of the the original disc, then burn this image onto a new DVD-R?

I've never used a Mac, so maybe someone else can give you a definitive answer.

Thanks, Moth3r. I had a feeling that iDVD wasn't the right program for this. I'll have to search around on this computer to see what else might be of use for copying DVDs.

EDIT: There is a "disk utility" on my computer, so I'm going to try that. Thanks again!

It's best to get a disc image and then you can use Disk utility to copy it. If your copying Video_TS you should be able to create an image out of it somehow but I can't really think of exactly how right now. If copied Video TS directly to disc and it doesn't always work correctly.

The Disk Utility "help" section walked me through the process and I've already successfully made several DVD-R copies.....thanks though! :-)
