Star Wars Sound Effects Archive - A collection of SW sounds for use in Fan Edits (* unfinished project *) — Page 7

Apologies, Frink. I'm a busy man these days. Whilst I agree with you it IS my responsibility to distribute the project, I really prefer not to send links to incomplete and unsorted archives that someone else has uploaded as I am a completist about this kind of thing. My project is currently on hold. I've made it clear in my replies that I lost all my progress. I'm sure you can understand I'd prefer not to dole out table scraps when the feast itself no longer seems forthcoming. Doing so would lead to me being inundated with link requests again, which would be fine if it were for the finished product which I could take pride in, but this just isn't the case.

It might interest some of you to learn that the only sounds in my archive that are not readily available online are the ones from the sounds of star wars book.

Thanks brash.  I do feel like this could have been avoided with a quick PM to me, but it's water under the bridge at this point.  You have the files I was able to recover so at this point I'll step away and let you continue as you see fit.  Thanks again for your hard work on this, and I will continue to credit you in my edits.

Someone should create a torrent of something with all of the collected sounds so far. I would definitely be interested in using most of these sounds for the Star Wars Battlecry project I'm involved with. At least we would like to use these as a basis and create some of our own versions of these sounds. Plus, it's just nice to have a big library of sounds available to you if you are into sound design. If anyone has a link or torrent or zip of the collected sounds please share.

@Frink

but reading Brash's last post, isn't it better that another (sound) editor takes the whole project and the responsibility ?

Hey guys,

I'm new on these forums and a SW sound collector as well. I look forward to any updates.  I'm a member of the 501st Legion and create sound loops for members in costume as well as loops for the sets we build for cons. The 501st Legion helps raise literally MILLIONS of dollars for charities every year, so any sounds anyone can contribute would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also willing to help divide and categorize sounds should anyone with the archive need help. This is a great project and I'm more than happy to lend my time.

For Lord Vader,

I was going to PM this, but thought i'd reiterate a few things for everyone. The files no longer exist as all the files together unsorted with lots of duplicates was too chaotic to work with. When I do pick up the project again, I'll be ripping from all games from scratch (as well as having a back up drive!) As the archive stood in its first release, it was just the Official Star Wars Soundboards plus sounds I ripped from the sound module of the Sounds Of Star Wars book. I MAY have those files somewhere from when I originally ripped them, but as for the Soundboards, they're still there on the official star wars site. You can download them from the website using browser plugins for downloading media. Those are pretty much the only sounds I'd compiled before my HDD crash. There are so many sounds out there in different media projects and so many duplicates that need sorting that I just don't have the time to start from scratch at the moment. I will get it done, but you certainly would have my blessing to do your own in the meantime.

As well  as the aforementioned resources, I was using every star wars game I could find as well as a few sounds from the entertainment utility released by lucasarts in the 90s along with a few sound effects websites.

Hopefully all this clarifies a few things. I didn't have much released to begin with (though a few people have found those helpful in their projects and kindly credited me). To carry on with anything involves ripping and finding everything from scratch.

That helps, Brash.  Thanks for the clarification for newbies like myself.  Hopefully, time will permit for these sounds to be made public again.  Thanks again.

Someone should just create a Gmail account utilizing the Google Drive on the account, sharing the login information with content contributors. Cloud-based, sync'd with a folder on your desktop so no risk of hard-drive failure. A text file about folder heirarchy/naming schemes could be shared with contributors who'd then handle organization, eventually being compiled into one large archive. When the archive was mature a public means of distribution could be discussed and agreed upon, something that could be searched for on torrent sites for example.

Leaving a project of this scope in the hands of only one person is probably the reason it hasn't advanced in nearly 3 years now. It's simply too ambitious for one person to tackle especially when they don't have the proper time to flesh it out. When I had my former stash of sounds before my own crash, it would've taken me a few months working 8 hour days to organize all of those thousands upon thousands of sounds.

My suggestion would give those with material incentive to get involved with the project. Even if just a few of those people worked with each other, it would push it out there that much sooner.

I think that is a great idea. I have received some sounds from a couple of people since joining this forum.  95% of what people have sent me I had already, but it is the 5% that makes it worthwhile.

All my stuff is sorted, or getting very close.  I tend to not always keep the video game sounds divided.  For instance, if I pull weapons sounds from different sources, they all get subdivided into a weapons folder (blasters, cannons, etc).  I don't particularly care which game it comes from.  When I'm editing, I'm simply going to look for weapons sounds in the weapons folder.  I don't want to have to dig to compare sounds from the Battlefront folder or Jedi Knight folder.

That being said, I'm not even sure which all games I have sounds from, but I have a fairly good idea.

I did a similiar thing with SW TPM game sounds at the start of last year. I used a free drop box account to store my files and then sent out the links to anybody who wanted them. I have been toying with the isea of putting them together in a torrent for spleen. maybe this should be on another thread, so sorry if this is hijacking Brash.

I am proud to say I remember the 80’s!

15GBs won't be enough.  I have more than that in Star Wars sounds on my own already.

Mostly wavs.   Some mp3s, not of my own choosing.  :)

I didn't know I had a problem.

Ain't a problem for me.  We would just need an alternative to Google Drive, or I could keep my sounds to myself, if it's too big of a problem.  ;)

I have 9 TB of storage. I'm not concerned with squeezing my 30,000 various SW sounds down to 15GB to help them fit on Google drive. I don't collect sounds for collecting's sake. I use them. FLAC's don't work natively in Final Cut Pro, Premiere, Audition, ProTools or most programs for that matter.  There might be plugins that work, but that's extra hassle.  WAVs work.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but converting them to FLAC is a step that would have to be undone when I actually need to use them.  I hope that makes sense.
