Or you can most likely reigon hack your DVD player to play all reigons. Look around here.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

If DVD Shrink didn't work, are you sure it's not an issue of PAL/NTSC capabilities?

Ditto what the good Rev said: are you getting a Region Code warning from the DVD, or is it not playing at all?

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
<span class=“Bold”>JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
<span class=“Bold”>Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.</span>

I would just buy a really cheapo DVD player from tesco for 30 quid that can be hacked.

Do I need to check something off, or something like that?

when you run it through dvd shrink there is an option you need to check to remove region encoding.

Quid is slang for pound. The British monetary system has a storied history, ending with "going metric." Here's a history of how the system used to work: History of the British Monetary System.

I dont think you can

I searched the net for it to be done it can be done on a computer DVD drive using software, not on a normal DVD player the only way is to use a hack seemingly.

Mr. Bungle, thats for converting the player to a different region. Usually in that case you can 'hack' the player to make it a region free player.

HotRod, you can do what you're asking with DVDShrink. Im not sure on the exact layout of the interface for it, but it should have a checkbox option that is labeled 'remove region encoding' or something like that (thats what i remember seeing). You may be able to set it to a specific region but whats the point of that really? If you remove the region encoding it wont matter what region the player is it will still play, the only issue then would be PAL vs NTSC.

that i cant help you out... i think there is some information in the technical information thread here, but you're best bet is probably doom9.org or videohelp.com. Im pretty sure this is a far more involved process that involves changing the framerate and stuff...think there is some 'quick & easy' programs to do it, but dont know of their quality and wouldnt be able to point you there. You're best (easiest) bet here would be to buy a cheap dvd player that plays PAL and NTSC (this would probably also be hackable to region free eliminating your need to run it through dvd shrink)

Yeah, bu if I buy a cheapo DVD player, I won't have all the surround sound and shit.
The player I have at the moment is nothing special, but does have all 5 speakers and gives off pretty good sound.
Plus, my missus won't be too happy if I went out and bought another player.
Really is not worth all the hassle

I'll give the shrink thing another go....but also I've just remembered my TV has an option to convert PAL to NTSC...well I thgink it does. Bloody should do, cost enough

But thanks for your help anyway boys

£30 from tesco's.....might have a look at that though!!!!

I don't know how it works in the UK but over here every DvD player I have ever owned converts PAL to NTSC on the fly.  If you use DvD Shrink to remove the region coding and burn the file to a blank disc it should work.  If that doesn't work this completely free and easy to use program will convert the file created by dvdshrink to a PAL MPEG2 file, it will even let you select the frame rate.  It's a great program that runs pretty smoothly, the only complaint I have ever had is that when you get one of the settings wrong the error message is in chinese, but everything else is in perfect English????  Still that is a minor point when this program does so many things well that other programs I have had to pay for don't do at all.
