Ridley Scott, the creative genius behind legendary Hollywood classics including "Alien," "Blade Runner" and "Gladiator," comes to SCIENCE this November with the world premiere eight-part series, PROPHETS OF SCIENCE FICTION.

Episode Descriptions : Mary Shelley, H.G. Wells, Philip K. Dick, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Jules Verne, Robert Heinlein &

George Lucas

Premieres Wednesday, February 22, at 10:00 PM (ET/PT) (Tentative)

From Luke Skywalker's light sabre to Darth Vader's Death Star, the Star Wars franchise is one of the defining science fiction works of the later 20th century. George Lucas' prolific imagination has already inspired two generations of scientists and engineers to push the envelope of technology. By introducing computers into the filmmaking process, he changed the way movies are made, and the way we all see the future. Surprisingly, many fictional technologies from "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" are now becoming a reality.

Newspaper in UK stated that Electrical store Currys (who ran the TV ad with R2 & 3PO) are due to show more Star Wars licensed ads for the build up to Christmas.

The ad is gonna show Vader arriving to a Currys store (as in ROTJ) with staff lined up ready for inspection.....maybe instead of 'the Emperors coming here' it'll be Saint Nick!

Seeing "George Luca$" and "Philip K. Dick" in the same sentence together makes me want to gouge my eyes out in anger.

lmao, to still air this documentary after everything thats been exposed since 1999 would be the equivalent of bob costas hosting a special discussing the summer of 1998 and talking about how magical mark mcgwire and sammy sosa were and what they meant to the game of baseball.

click here if lack of OOT got you down

The George Lucas episode of 'The Prophets of Science Fiction' is premiering as i'm typing.  Missed the first 15 minutes.  But when they aired a clip of Star Wars, I believe they've notated it as 1997.

*EDIT* SW is definitely labeled 1997.  ...but Empire clips are labeled 1980....

The show is about how works from books to movies spur real world science.  Episodes tend to showcase two of three technologies, along with a brief history of the author/creator and overview of the books/movies.

That's funny, I watched about the first 15 minutes. =P I was really disappointed they used the SE comic adaptation instead of the original for some of the visuals.

ITV isn't showing George's original vision?

Someone should sneak another alternate version on their broadcast drive.

TPM is on ITV1HD at the moment, with AOTC on next Saturday. It's a good bet they are going to show all 6 films. Not sure if they will be the blu-ray versions or not yet though.

EDIT: Just checked a bit of TPM and it's not the blu-ray version.

Are these being captured?  ;)

If better results can be had by a better capture than the TPB, then why not?

It was presented in 16:9 zoomed, so not worth capturing, although the colouring didn't look as pink as the other HDTV captures.

Bummer on the zooming.....this could've been good for the DTS project going on.

Oh well....another time, maybe.

Thanks adywan.

Carrie Fisher will be on with Craig Ferguson tonight. I wonder if he'll ask her about the Disney deal?

Ooooh that's interesting timing. I wonder if her appearance was scheduled before or after the announcement? I thought I read somewhere Carrie has a new book or something on the way - maybe that's why?

Either way I'll be excited to see what she has to say. Heaven knows her, um, appearance and health will be under the scrutiny of millions of judgmental fanboys.

She's a frequent guest on his show, and a lot of times she doesn't have anything in particular to plug. But, we'll see!

She wasn't on Ferguson's show last night.

Yeah, I don't know what happened. :-/ The cable directory said it was supposed to be CF and RZA it ended up being Matthew Perry and RZA. Maybe it was a last minute change.

In any case, I've discovered that Carrie is going to be in a Christmas movie on the Hallmark channel, so that might have been what she was going to plug, if anything.

Maybe Carrie Fisher really is Matthew Perry???
