I’m just freaking tired of all the shitposting about Japanese animation. Is that okay with all of you?

I’m sure there are plenty of Japanese animators who don’t produce anime, and they’re probably fine pieces of animation.

Strikes me as a bit silly to assume that Japanese people can only create anime-style animation.

When I say that anime is bad, I’m directly insulting that one style of animation, not broadly insulting all animation or all Japanese people. That’s one style of animation being insulted.

This entire post is silly. Anime refers to Japanese animation. Not a style. And there are many different art styles that have been used in various anime by various artists; some Japanese comics and animated series have even changed art styles throughout their original run. So you actually can’t insult just one style of animation if you call it anime.

To say that anime is simply a style of animation would mean that Avatar: The Last Airbender is anime. It’s not, because it’s not Japanese.

By saying all anime sucks, you are condemning all Japanese animated media.

This is so silly. It’s like saying “Hip hop is not one genre of music, because there are different styles and sub-genres, instead, hip hop refers to all music made by blacks.”

As I said, the only clear definition of anime is: animated film or series originally made in Japanese language. It eliminates the potential for pointless arguments about style and nationality of creators. In the first case, it eliminates completely subjective perception of style. In the second case, it eliminates American cartoons that happen to be animated by a Japanese studio.

Anyway, in Japanese “anime” means any kind of animated series/film.

Wasn’t this thread about japanese animated movies/tvseries/mini series ? Not a great surprise that Frink is an asshole (the kind I admit I have never seen elsewhere, it’s like he’s been raised to be an internet asshole) but there are other people on his side here who usually don’t share his agressive, hatred and fascist behavior. You don’t need to follow his steps you know; within a few years his little Frinkettes will replace him, hence the job is already taken dudes, so let it go… let it go… (Frink never bothered me anyway).

Yep, anyway…

So, on the rail again: I watched The boy and the beast a few weeks ago. Mamoru Hosoda is a fine director and he knows who to work with (design, animation, music, it’s always very good) but this time it felt a little bit flat with a very curious narative that kinda changes its topic for the third act. The issue is that the emotional climax already happened at the end of act II and the following felt more like an extension rather than a proper resolution. It’s nevertheless a good movie but it really seems that Hosoda has already met his own limits since its very first “real” film The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. A good director who delivers good movies, but he’ll never be as good as Satoshi Kon others. I still hope he will prove me wrong.

You can also claim anime is good without basis, whereas I have science on my side.

Hey, c’mon, it’s not like it’s Toy Story 2.

Thank you for reminding me that, even for a moment, I took seriously someone that had such a ridiculous opinion on Toy Story 2. I’ll try to correct the error going forward.

Anime is not a genre. It’s a term used outside of Japan to specify animation from Japan. In Japan it just means animation. It doesn’t refer to any specific art style. And your hip hop comparison is even more silly than Tyrphanax’s post, which very well could’ve come out of a common misconception.

So every animation is both anime and not anime until I know wether the creator is Japanese or not? Is that Schrödinger’s anime?

Schrödinger’s Anime is the phenomenon where the anime could be good or not good, but you don’t know until you open the box. Once you open the box, the reality of anime not being good is revealed.

Perhaps one day someone will open the box and find a good anime. It’s certainly possible. But it hasn’t happened yet.

Also lets not be too harsh there might be cat shit on thr floor affecting his judgement.

Does that explain his anime hissy fit too?

If so, I really think he should be required to clean up all the cat shit before he’s allowed back on the computer.

Oh but you see Frink it’s not his cat therefor the shit isn’t his problem.

But if it’s affecting his posting the way it seems to be, then that cat is this community’s problem.

Who are you asking?

What’s a squirell?

A squirell is a squirrel with 2 spelling mistakes. Both look like Daisy Ridley when she plays Rey.
