I’m mostly joking when I say it. I have several friends irl that are fans of various animes and I make the same jokes. Usually they laugh it off. I guess it doesn’t work as well in the typed form as it does in person. I shall refrain from making further comments on the matter of anime as I have recently.

Thank you for clarifying and being a reasonable human being, rather than an ass like the other two specified members.

And I’m not trying to shame anyone for offending anime lovers or anything like that. I just think that the statements being made were completely unnecessary and unreasonable, not to mention insulting if any such statements were made genuinely.

Concerning how “being mean to anime” isn’t what you seem to think it is: when you say all Japanese animation is objectively awful, you are essentially saying that all Japanese people are completely incapable of creating quality pieces of animated media.

Then add the other side, which is where I am included. You not only said that anime was bad, but you also said that watching/enjoying a piece of Japanese animation is clear evidence immaturity. That is quite insulting as well.

And about the retard remark: I personally don’t believe that actually mentally challenged people are being mass-insulted when someone calls someone else (or something else) retarded in an insulting way, regardless of whether it’s genuine or playful. When you are “being mean to anime,” you are directly insulting all of those people. When I call someone retarded for not making intelligent choices or whatnot, I am directly insulting there mental capacity. That’s one person being insulted. I’m sure there are plenty of Japanese animators who don’t produce anime, and they’re probably fine pieces of animation.

This entire post is silly. Anime refers to Japanese animation. Not a style. And there are many different art styles that have been used in various anime by various artists; some Japanese comics and animated series have even changed art styles throughout their original run. So you actually can’t insult just one style of animation if you call it anime.

To say that anime is simply a style of animation would mean that Avatar: The Last Airbender is anime. It’s not, because it’s not Japanese.

By saying all anime sucks, you are condemning all Japanese animated media.
