There are SOME of the Enterprise shots (in front of a blue screen), but definitely not ALL of them.

There are SOME of the Enterprise shots (in front of a blue screen), but definitely not ALL of them.
It’s not all bad, it’s just that I’m fairly new to Trek and I feel like someone who grew up with the special edition of the OT. Also, in every comparison shot I’ve seen, I prefer the original version. The 60’s aesthetics are a big factor in my attraction to the show and I find the new space shots totally jarring when cutting back or forth with the original locations.

I’m reminded of one of the TAS novelizations where there’s a passage about the Christmas party aboard the Enterprise. (They even have a live tree they keep in cold storage the rest of the year.) Scotty is sloshed to the gills, and annoys Spock with his designs for a fourth dimensional Christmas tree. I kid you not.

The novels greatly expand on twenty minute long tv scripts, so there’s a lot of material and subplots added. Scotty getting drunk would not have flown on Saturday Morning back in 1973. 😉

Right, but they didn’t have the original elements like they did for TNG, so it’s more that they cleaned up the many-generations old final edit version.
