I saw a 70mm print this year, it did not look anything like the BD at all.

So what is the closest color from available formats that you’d compare to 70mm screening?

From the uncut 1:66.1 version of Robocop only being available on an OOP non-anamorphic 1999 DVD, to The Matrix receiving a re-colour so it matches the sequels.

Yeah I found a hd version of the DVD master and compared them, here I think

Thanks for great links to re-coloring. The color regraded versions are interesting experiments to watch but they should be an extra feature, not the one and only version on the market. The same goes for the original theatrical audio mix, not to mention foreign dubs. I fail to see what’s the problem of including both versions to satisfy both original and contemporary audience.

I’m glad to have Aliens THX LD that matches 70mm and I’m also glad to Have Japanese Matrix DVD with original color and uncut version (they’ve cut down the number of blows Smith gives to Neo and Morpheus). Matrix regrade at least makes sense in the grand scheme of green matrix code.

I haven’t been updating this thread with as much information as the one over at fanres. I finished the regrade of the video for the TV cut. (For those that forgot it is regrading the BD to the 1995 THX laserdisc)

Making the theatrical cut from that should be trivial. For the TV cut all there is left to do is sync the soundtracks: the 5.1, the LD PCM 2.0 (SE LD) and the soundtrack from the TV broadcast. The Theatrical will have the 4.1 from the BD and a PCM 2.0 (non-SE LD).

The video is done but I’m still syncing tracks. I got put behind finishing some other projects. Def earlier this year and then I start/continue working on Alien 3.

Very nice work there. Hopefully I see this on 35mm at a theater someday and I can report back here with my notes. i saw Total Recall on 35mm at a theater last night and as I predicted, there was no teal color timing to speak of. That’s why I will not buy the current blu-ray.

As someone who owns the UK ALIEN Anthology BD set and the USA 20th Anniversary DVD for ALIEN, this project has me intrigued.
Will this be a BD25 or BD50?
Why aren’t the ALIEN Appendix discs on a BD25 with AVC coding? Too many DVDs and it can still be in SD resolution on a BD.
