FE wants me to make a 5.1 mix.

Are they saying this is required before it’s approved? Or just a suggestion? If they are saying it is required, I’d definitely push back on that, there are plenty of edits on FE that are in stereo. Many editors only edit in stereo. And this edit is great as it is. Great work!

Listed on IFDB now!

With the approval comes yet another slightly new release (V5) per some FE guidelines and approver feedback. More or less the same as what you might’ve seen already, just a bit more polished (higher bitrates, fuller stereo) and simple disclaimer at the front of each episode.

This sounds awesome! Those example clips were fantastic. I’d love to check these episodes out.

Watched the first episode so far and I took some notes

One thing that really stood out watching this edit was the difference in filming style between Andor and Rogue One. In Andor shots linger and I think it does alot of the heavy lifting in establishing tension. I found myself wishing that the camera would linger on the reactions of characters here for that same reason.

The rescoring changes the overall feel immensely and it does feel like a much better story, especially with the removal of easter eggs.

Couple of notes if you’re looking for any points to improve:

  • If the noise made by the imperial ship passing by Jyn at the start of the film was a bit longer i think it would help with establishing tension, still amazing as is though
  • The Yavin 4 Alliance intro didn’t really fit imo. The one when they were leaving fit really well though. Maybe something tied to Mons music idk.
  • The Jyn Flashback was immaculate.
  • Entering Jheda had a really cool music backdrop, it felt like the world had a unique vibe. It might be cool if when entering the city that type of music or that music was in the background to connect the two scenes.
  • I’d recommend cutting overt signs of Saw’s people before the attack. Both Jyn and Andor notice somethings about to happen just from seeing somebody on a rooftop already. So removing overt shots of people hiding helps establish that they are both observant.
  • Something about Chiruts fight music felt off, I’m not sure what though.
  • At the end of S1 episode 3 of Andor there is this three minute swell which works really well. I think something like that could be cool from about 40:20 to the end.

This whole thing is amazing, ty for making it.

Watched the second and third episodes. Don’t have as many notes as last time. The whole thing comes together very well. Especially the end, it felt a lot like the show.

Overall amazing work

Wow, I love this idea. Can I have a link please? 😃

I have seen all three in one session. What a great achievement, what a good idea and what a satisfying way to execute it. I have never liked Rogue One very much, I’ve always seen it as a film that was not able to explore what it really wanted and that had to compensate for those shortcomings with easter eggs and somewhat cheap references.

However, I loved Andor and it seemed like a perfect redemption to that story, so this edit makes me very excited and seems like a perfect way to bring the intentions of the two works closer together. I agree that the difference in direction and editing with Andor is noticeable, but with this being sort of its “final arc” I can accept the faster pace.

Great work.

Hello! Can you please send the link?

Also, what are you thinking of doing some re-scoring when S2 comes out?

Definitely in the plans, yes! Especially if specific locations or characters get their own motifs.

EDIT: Also thank you for the praise to everyone who has left it! I don’t love bumping my own threads unless a specific question is asked (am also not great at receiving compliments), but I do appreciate it!

You planning on doing a uhd version of the edit? because the uhd has hdr or does hdr not really matter for this film?

I don’t have a UHD source for Rogue One, sorry. If HDR is important to you, know this [currently] does not have it.

Once Andor season 2 is out, do you have any plans to further rescore this to implement more music once it’s out? Also may I ask what software you used to rescore this?

These were amazing, thank you so much. I didn’t really know what to expect going into this. I’m used to TV to Movie edits, so going the other is a new experience for me. I have to say that I really enjoyed the rescoring, and it worked beautifully; at no point did I feel I was watching a fan edit at all. I’ll be keeping these in my collection, and I’ve made some Plex episode cards to go with them, if anyone is interested:
