A possible reason why the lightsabers are so messed up in ROTJ

So, I went through the DVD active article again on the changes throught the OT, and saw this particular quote regarding the lightsabers.
"there is a definite increase in brightness and contrast." That refers to the original SE.
Now, I'd bet you've all seen the catastrophe that is the '04 sabers, but in case you haven't:

And here's the SE's, just for fun:

I'm wondering if perhaps they took the SE masters and just downed the brightness/contrast to closer match the original release, and ignored the lightsabers. I apologize if this is common knowledge, by the way. Comments?

Funny, I see it; I'm normally against direct linking, but I felt a bit lazy today.
If anyone else has trouble seeing the images, I'll re-upload them to my photobucket or somewhere.
EDIT: now I can't see them either! And even when I go to the actual articles, they show the "no direct linking" type image. Can someone else go to the article and get the images for me? Thanks.
Sorry! I hope my point still comes across without the images. This is why we shouldn' t direct link people... XD

The horrendous color job on the 2004 dvd's looks very similar to what happens when you hit auto fix on most photo editing programs. Considering Lowry had 30 days per film, I'm guessing they put too much faith in computers, like Lucas did with the prequels.

Interesting. My normal workflow on digital photography (I use RAW mode on a Canon EOS-20D) is to load the RAW image into Photoshop, hit "auto levels" and start from there.

Another thing I noticed while showing a friend the difference between the Han/Greedo shooting first scene - in the SE version everything is far too dark. Yes, you can see Greedo, but you can't see anything in the background. In the original version you can see the textures on the walls etc.

Somewhere (X0 project?) I read about this being like the visual equivalent of turning the bass and treble controls up to maximum because it "sounds better". (Which it doesn't of course.)

I noticed that, Zion. That's because I direct linked - and because I did that, I can't go back to the original image and host it someplace else.

When I can see the image again, or if someone can see it (as said above), I'll/please host it up someplace else!

Tried it several times; this is why direct linking, while easier, sometiems does not work. One question though: is my point proven without the images, or do I need them for you guys to understand better?

I uploaded them:

The screwed up light sabers is one of my most hated problem with the SE. I can't believe they could just miss something this obvious. They look like loppypop sticks.
