A better laser disc player?

Author

Okay yes i know about the x0 project, and yes I know that it's probably the best, but it's out of my price range... In any case, i'm wondering if you guys can let me know of any decent laser disc players out there, that I can grab on ebay. Currently I got a Pioneer CLD-M460, I notice little artifacts like scanlines brightening and darkening, and various other things... I'm thinking maybe i don't have a very good LD player. I got this LD player off of ebay for about 20 bucks (sans shipping), but i'm considering reselling it and getting a better one. Any recommendations?

I could only find one cld-99 on ebay and it had gotten up to 280 bucks, which is way out of my price range, especially for this single thing.

Any other suggestions?

The CLD-D704 is good but some have reported a "streaking" defect, so be careful with that one.

What is the form of this streaking effect? Essentially when I play laser discs from my current player, I see each line change in brightness, it's not enough to stop from watching (or recording) it, but it's enough that I want to look for another player -- this could be mistaken as a streaking effect. If you mean this then this is what mine is already doing, but if you're thinking more smearing or something else then that's something different.

BTW thanks for replying guys

See Zion's Project Thread, his post dated 21 December 2004 for an example of what I mean by streaking.

I think it's a common problem with the D704 but I also seem to remember that it only occurs on CLV discs. But I could be wrong, Zion may be able to explain better.
