That’s pretty much the same link I posted earlier, haha.

The duckduckgo one, right?

Yeah.

I love it as a search engine.

I actually think Disney is going to go back, 4k scan the original film since the SE would be an upscale to get it to 4k ( I think). They will clean that up and release it. From there, I could see George and Disney working together to create a new Special Edition with updated SFX/CGI to make all their ‘new canon’ fit better.

Disney has no reason to every work with George again and they wouldn’t be stupid enough to anyway.

Yeah, my gut says this is an upscale. Perhaps a monstrous hybrid.

I’m trying not to get my hopes up, you still have to deal with Fox who is ok with kissing Lucas’ ass. They might block it on the grounds of not wanting to go against his wishes.

My nephew will be 2 this January. I would love for him to see a nice version of the Original Trilogy when he is old enough. I already jokingly threatened to call CPS if he’s shown the Prequels or the SEs.

i really have to disagree. think about it the crappy dvd version of the originals came out in 2006. so i have a feeling it will happen and come out on blu ray and 4k blu ray.

I just came across this article, so I thought I’d add it to the others recently posted here -

www.io9.gizmodo.com/gareth-edwards-says-a-4k-restoration-of-star-wars-exist-1790418019

The fact that Gareth is quoted as saying that John Knoll said that there was a brand new 4k restoration print of A New Hope, gives me some optimism…if ‘restoration’ is used in the correct sense by either Gareth or John - as far as I know, there are plenty of 4k upscales of previous 2k movies…and it could easily prove to be the case that they have just done this with the SE too. Hopefully, the usage of the word ‘restoration’ means just that, as it would point to the original movie that’s been ‘restored’.

No, it’s definitely going to be some sloppily executed upscale. That would be consistent with Lucasfilm’s policy of cutting corners twice at every possible step. According to them the Lowry master is better than perfect, so why should we fix it for the fans?

Stopped reading due to Landis being absent from this chain of hearsay.

If you guys are trusting Disney to do anything right, I think you’re going to be sadly mistaken.

I mean. I would just prepare myself for it being a 4k upscale of the Special Editions.

What’s weird is that I was reading through the most recent comments in this thread before asking when exactly that John Landis quote happened. Then I googled it and apparently it was September of last year, placing it roughly halfway between when Edwards would’ve watched the 4k restoration and right now.

In reply to the earlier comments about it being an upscale, it’s definitely not an upscale. Reliance Media Works had the OT listed on their website as “4k 16-bit” very briefly in July 2014 before it was quickly taken down. This would’ve been only a couple months after Edwards was hired. The brief clips on RMW’s demo reel show that it’s clearly from a fresh scan.

Are you able to make any posts that don’t complain about TFA or RO?

That post had nothing to do with TFA or RO. It was about Disney not releasing the OOT after nearly 5 years.

These rumors just keep flying, but still nothing concrete. I’m just finding it hard to get my damned hopes up. I’d download Harmy, but I’m scared of getting arrested.

You wont get arrested. The person who shared it would be more likely to get arrested. I’ve downloaded a ton of torrents over the years and never had an issue.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Almost all of the fan-edits of films I want are of movies I own at least one copy of, and sometimes several. My brother is a lawyer trying to get into Internet intellectual property law and says that it can be a pretty big fine if I get caught, but not arrested. Thanks, Atticus. Millions of people torrent stuff, but I swear, I’d be the damned one who got caught.

He went to law school, I called him Atticus sarcastically. It would be so cool if he was a lawyer named Atticus though.

Are you suggesting Edwards told Landis, and Landis spilled the beans?

Do they know each other? I know they’ve both been critical of the revisionism in the past.

You should ask your brother if Lucas could actually prevent an official OOT restoration from ever happening by writing it into his will or something, or if there would still be ways to circumnavigate his wishes after he’d passed away.

Yes, I know we keep saying “he sold it to Disney fair and square.” But the truth is we really don’t know what the terms of the sale to Disney were. I’m like 99% confident that Disney’s the reason it hasn’t happened yet, they want to keep the focus on the new movies and also wait until they fully control all the non-ANH movies. But it’s that 1% of doubt that makes me wonder. We’ve already heard rumors that people at Fox “don’t feel comfortable” being involved in an unaltered restoration while George is still alive.
