Social media is probably our best bet in 2017.

Is there an original trilogy facebook page? It might be worth it to create a page and then you can run a newsfeed ad. You can target only people who like pages related to Star Wars, and I would narrow it down further to people over the age of 35 or maybe even a bit older as that is still a lot of people.
I just checked and there are currently 8.2 million people on facebook in the US who are over 35 and specifically like Star Wars pages.

The Force is strong with the Gen Xers.

Not only Gen Xers, but film buffs of all ages or people with taste in general.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Yeah, no reason to target 35+, as I am only 18, and I love this site.

Having an official facebook page would be really really nice, someone should definitely do that.

It’s really up to Jay to create that sort of thing.

They were asking specifically about placing an ad. We are dealing with 10’s of millions of people. Yes, of course there are lots of young people that would love the OOT. But you have to narrow it down, because you obviously can’t reach everybody on facebook that likes star wars (unless you have about $175,000 you would like to donate). In order to stretch ad dollars and target the most concentrated group of OOT fans, you have to target gen-x’ers.

So…double ban then?

To answer my own question…yes.

Thank the maker.

You’re welcome.

–Darth Vader (Yes, that’s how fucking stupid and claustrophobically self-cannibalizing the PT is.)

Which begs the question of how Threepio would react if he ever found out who his maker was? 😉

I imagine something along the lines of:

Darth Vader

I…am your fahthah!

C-3PO[Hanging from antenna]

(Double take) O dear.

If anyone is particularly adept at social media and is interested in helping manage our Twitter and Facebook accounts, I’d be open to it. (I mean somebody who actually works in this space or has real experience building an audience.)

I mean, we’ve got 80k on the Revisited Page, but that all came naturally; no ads, no promotion. Not sure how we can translate that to OT.

You may have just defeated my entire argument for even bothering with another petition.

I know some folks are saying if this were happening at Celebration there’d be more leaks by now. But does anyone actually believe there won’t be anything new at all in regards to the OT on home media? Whatever it is, they’ve done a good job keeping a lid on it. In the absence of a direct ‘no’ from LF or a more solid ‘no’ rumor, I’m inclined to believe John Landis and makingstarwars.net for the time being.

When did I say there would be nothing new on home media? I said it’s quite obvious they are not going to release the OOT. That has nothing to do with future special edition releases, however.

It’s been FIVE YEARS. If Disney were going to release a new SE, they’d have done it by now! No chance. None. Five years!!

A new release of the SE wouldn’t be anywhere near as big of a deal as a restored OOT.

This “surprise announcement” (very vague) will either be the unaltered versions hitting blu-ray at long last or have nothing at all to do with a re-release of the movies.

I’m at a loss to think of what else it could possibly be if it’s not the OOT, but it’s definitely not the SE. Such an announcement would be met with “oh, that was it? meh.”

Either a home video release of the OOT or a 4K UHD release of the SEs

The SE in 4k would only appeal to the small percentage of people who’ve upgraded their hardware.

Again, this “surprise announcement” - whatever it ends up being - will have nothing to do with the SE.

I could be totally wrong about this, but I assume that people who care enough about movies to watch them in 4K would also be people who care enough about movies to want to see them in their original versions. I would think the venn diagram of people who like 4K and people who prefer the SEs to be seperate circles.

But, as i have said before, there has been nothing even mentioned about a “surprise announcement” happening at Celebration. It’s just something that has been twisted from the official announcement of the panel.

The only two official things said about the 40th panel that mentions anything about “surprises” :

Official Star Wars site:
…this marquee Celebration event will undoubtedly include many not-to-be-missed surprises.

Andi Gutierrez on the Star Wars Show:
Celebration is the place for surprises, make sure you attend this event. That’s all we are going to say.

NOTHING about any announcement being one of the “surprises”.

I think it would be an enormous mistake having the 40th anniversary tribute as the opening panel to celebration without some sort of big surprise or announcement at the end. 2015 they ended it with a TFA trailer. 2016 they made an effort to end with a bang with that bts reel for R1 (though that was kind of lame). They love kicking off celebration with a bang. Since they moved the Episode 8 panel in favor of starting with the 40th anniversary tribute, I’d be shocked if they didn’t have SOMETHING big planned, even if it’s not what we’re all hoping.
