If anything, we’re going to get a 4K version of Star Wars with re rendered CGI

No. You’re going to get a 4k version of the same Special Edition you’ve been watching since 2011.

Yeah, that’s what I said. There wasn’t any CGI in the original version. I was referring to the special edition.

I thought he said they were going to redo all the 90s CGI, which of course they are not going to do.

But maybe I read it wrong.

I meant that Disney was going to re render the 2011 CG
There’s a difference between re rendering CG and making new CG for a film

Gotcha

As long as the picture quality looks better and the color timing is more accurate, that’d be something to me

Well I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that any new release of the special edition is unwelcome at this point, so long as the OOT is not available commercially and in high quality.

After all this time it really does make you wonder if the original negatives of the Original Trilogy are gone. I have always believed the Special Editions should have been a bonus feature, nice to watch a few times here and there, but the original films should be the ones that have gotten the HD treatment they deserve.

They probably won’t re-render the CGI. 2K upscaled to 4K isn’t uncommon for stuff like this.

It’s gotten to the point where I don’t particularly care anymore. Years of being burned by this hope have brought me to the conclusion that no matter what, whether there’s an official release or not, I will always have an acceptable analogue in projects like Despecialized. Of course, for many it’s more a matter of principle and preserving history, but given Disney’s track record with classic releases, I’m not going to hold my breath for very much longer. I’ll still be glued to my computer during the Celebration livestream, and I’ll still be hunting down the credibility of any rumors that speak of an OOT, but it’s with no small amount of pain that I say I don’t think it’s very likely at this time.

With the quality of fan restorations becoming available for Star Wars, I don’t much care what official product they release - no matter what, Star Wars won’t be a ‘lost film’.

There are a great many less-well-known films needing preservation or restoration, and there are probably a lot where a fan restoration is necessary. I hope that in the near future they get the attention they deserve.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)

Wow. Everyone is just giving up now aren’t they? I refuse to accept a world where a fan edit is the only way to watch the original versions.

THIS, a million times over.

I’ve already made up my mind not to buy anything Star Wars related on blu-ray, not even if it’s a future-proofed 4k combo, until the OOT is given its due. I’ll go see the new movies in the theater, but that’s it. I’ve still never bought the blu-rays, sure ain’t going to now. There are plenty of other movie restorations on blu-ray I’d rather spend my hard-earned money on.

He’s ok as long as he hasn’t been downloading fan restorations utilizing the Blu-rays (such as Despecialized).

Otherwise we should throw him in a pit and let him digest slowly over a period of one-thousand years.

I will not give up on the Original Trilogy. We’ve made too many compromises already; too many retreats. Lucas let Greedo shot first and we fall back. He inserts Hayden Christensen in Return of the Jedi and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn at the 40th anniversary of STAR WARS! This far, no further! And I will not buy another Special Edition release!

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Quoting Star Trek in defense of Star Wars. Truly, what a time to be alive.
