So basically “70’s style acting” are actors acting in the 70’s ? Fisher is somehow weak in ANH but Cushing is awesome. Which one does represent the “70’s style acting” you don’t like ?

Peter Cushing’s and most of Harrison Ford’s performance would be totally fine in the modern age because the the line delivery is literally timeless. But certain parts of Hamill and Fisher’s performance have line delivery that was abundant in that time. The dialogue doesn’t help much either as some of it has a 70’s vibe to it. But it’s not as though SW is the only film in the OT with that problem; ESB has it to. The whole “Why you half witted scruffy looking nerf herder”…“Who’s scruffy looking” exchange wouldn’t work in the present.
Really? I call people that all the time. 😉
Where were you in '77?
James Luceno (author of Tarkin and Darth Plagueis) is writing a prequel novel to Rogue One. They should just have this man write everything Star Wars related
wasn’t the trailer supposed to be released at 8PM Eastern Time tonight? I’m not able to find anything.
No, the bit they showed on television was just the sizzle reel again. The trailer they showed the crowd at Celebration was just for the crowd at Celebration. Same as that awesome teaser from last year’s Celebration that they never officially released.

What the hell is this? I can’t see a thing lol
EDIT:
I’ve been looking for a decent video of the leak to no avail so far. Tobar where is it man?
Not convinced that’s Bail Organa (but I’d love to be proven wrong). The fact that he’s in a military uniform doesn’t seem to fit.

Maybe if this film were taking place a couple of years after ROTS .
Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)

Why?
Bail was heavily involved with the rebellion around time of ANH. And it’s only been 19 years since ROTS, so technically he shouldn’t look any older than the guy in the picture. One could also argue that Mon Motha looks a tad too young in this film considering how it’s only roughly 5-ish years between ANH and ROTJ.

That contradicts the reason you said you don’t think it’s Bail.

That’s an interesting point but we need to see a good photo of whoever that person is before any assessment can be made. Also they could perhaps use CGI to age Jimmy a bit.

How? I do think it’s possible he’s Bail.
(Or are you referring to my previous comment that I imagined him with a white beard? If so that relates to my OT, pre-PT image of Bail.)

Why, CGI?
Some simple prosthetics or make-up could age Jimmy Smits quite easily.

Shit, I’m on dope. I thought you were Joe for some reason. My bad.

I’m okay with makeup but screw prosthetics
Even if it’s not such a great looking Tarkin, I would have loved to see more of him in ROTS. Just a couple of scenes, nothing more.
About Mon Mothma’s age:
In ROTJ ("+4"), let’s assume she’s 50 yo (Caroline Blakiston, who got the part, was 50 yo in 1983 - she still lives nowadays… caméo in the ST could be a possibility);
In ROTS (deleted scenes, “-19”), with the assumption she’s 50 in “+4”, she’s 27 in “-19”. Genevieve O’Reilly, who took the part (and who still has it in Rogue One), was 28 yo in 2005;
In Rogue One (year 0, roughly one or two weeks before ANH I guess), she’s then supposed to be 46 yo. Genevieve O’Reilly is 39 yo this year.
So the age difference is not really an issue. She looks younger in Rogue One but not that younger. Having to lead the rebellion after the death of Bail Organa was no easy task.
It just seems off given how Bail has been portrayed in the nuEU. Every time he’s been mentioned in any books or comics he’s seemed to be 100% a civilian. I know that he was a key player in organizing the Rebellion, but I’ve never seen anything to suggest he was actually a ranking member of that organization. Again, they could very easily find a way to make it work, but right now it doesn’t jibe with what I know about the character.

In Rebels ("-5"), he’s clearly going to get involved with the Rebel Alliance : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd9zT0eI2z8
And his daugther wishes Ben to deliver the DS plans to her father, so we can guess eventually his former Senator friend Mothma made him part of the Rebel Alliance (“and a traitor !”). Gosh, would be so fun to have him encounter Lord Vader…

Well, that’s just one example of some bad prosthetics.
There’s been many good, and subtler, examples;
(Even the first picture of Meryl Streep above has her wearing some small prosthetics. Lucas, for whatever reason, just decided to slap as much latex as he could onto Wayne Pygram in ROTS.)

Hopefully George Lucas wouldn’t ruin yet another character.

Nice assessment there. I pretty much agree wholeheartedly.

General Kenobi, years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father’s request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack and I’m afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.

For me personally it would have been cool if he had some type of impact on advancing the Grand Plan of the Sith. Would make him being a Grand Moff more impactful because we see how he got there.

Actually that doesn’t look too bad. The FX team seems like they know what they’re doing so they could probably make it work.
“Who’s scruffy looking” exchange wouldn’t work in the present.
That’s 'cause the present sucks.
I don’t know why, but movies seemed better at old age makeup in the 20th century than it does today.

This is supposed to be the ROTS Tarkin makeup test, and it looks better than what was in the movie!
In any case, it’s been 11 years since ROTS was shot, so it’s not like they need to do much to age Smits another 9 years.
Where were you in '77?
This make up test is great. Pygram should have got more scenes in ROTS… and in Rogue One as well 😃
He looks suprisingly more Peter Cushing-type than in the movie.
If I was a movie producer, I would hire him to take the lead of a Frankenstein Hammer-era sequel.
