STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread — Page 6

The older I become the less interest I have in seeing human-like aliens in sci-fi/space fantasy/space opera/whatever. What's the point? Why not have these races be "removed" humans and save yourself make-up and special effects time? Sometimes it's necessary and works, as in Mass Effect.

In other words, yes, I would prefer Thrawn be human, as well as this Inquisitor fellow. For one because aliens are usually pointless, and second because of the Empire's standards as darklordoftech addressed.

I'd love to see IG-88 and Yularen. IG-88 because the EU story about him has so many problems and Yularen because to connect The Clone Wars, Rebels, and ANH.

Guess we'll see soon enough if the Weisman curse holds true.  He lost Gargoyles at season 3 (coincidentally, the show was canceled after said third season), and two much beloved cartoons he's helmed - Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice - were prematurely canceled.

What curse? He's hardly the only showrunner to get screwed over by the suits in charge.

Should the Empire be anti-alien or not?

yes, as well as white and mostly british.

I want to see the Imperial induction process, which includes elocution classes to gain that evil British tone. ;)

Well, they are classified as near-human -- ie. their species evolved from baseline humans.

I wonder what's up with this inquisitor guy. What kind of training does he have and from who?

Probably a ratings. It won't happen anytime soon because it's Star Wars.

The guy who wrote X-men the Last Stand.  I hope days of future's past does not suck he wrote that as well.

I also hope he only has a hand in the spin offs or the animated cartoons and has no hand whatsoever in the sequel trilogy.

A flying astromech...

Filoni remembered that R2 doesn't fly, so he introduced an astromech that does fly.

"We will see many things that are famous to Star Wars, but have not appeared on screen in a while. Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters, and Stormtroopers – basically the Empire is back and that is a big change, since, for many years, we have only seen the Republic in action. The tone of the series is also different. The Clone Wars got very dark as we headed towards the end of the war and the downfall of the Jedi. Star Wars Rebels brings back the banter and faster pace that the original films were famous for."

I think is is an awesome quote right here.

I'm not going to go so far as to think they'll ignore the prequels totally, or try to erase them or whatever, but since 1999, we've been totally inundated with the PT. Toys, games, shows, movies, nearly everything Star Wars since TPM has been PT related, and at this point, the OT is kind of a blip in the past. Sad as it is, with all the PT stuff, the OT has become more or less irrelevant in terms of Star Wars, especially for new Star Wars fans, who may never have seen them.

I fully admit I'm fanboying here about Filoni and stuff, but this is really what the OT needs, a shot in the arm to get new fans interested in it, I mean, sure we all got hooked on the OT, but times have changed, and rather than moping about it, it's nice to see some action being taken to bring the OT back to the forefront, to make it relevant again. It's been so long since we had any real OT material (aside from books, but those really are meant for established fans who don't need help visualising stuff), and I think that Rebels can provide that intro to the OT for the kids who may be more easily enticed by the flash and dazzle of the PT compared to the slower, less intense (but far superior) OT.

It's certainly better than rebooting the OT, or trying to "update" it a la 1997.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

For the record I can assure you it wasn't ratings with Young Justice.  It's CN's current business model.  Action shows don't sell toys the way they used to, apparently...

As for Spectacular Spider-Man, that one probably was ratings.  However, the Marvel-Disney deal really killed it when Marvel gave over all animation rights.

This may be old news, but they'll be shown as "Season 6" on German television starting in February. 13 episodes in total.

Was? I really hope that's not a cruel joke :-)

Well they are airing this spring for sure, no specific dates have been announced though.  Also, we have no clue where (which station or some streaming service?) still in the USA.

And, yes those are correct, Laserschwert.

Yeah, and reading more of the news on them, it looks like Germany will in fact be getting these before the US.

That's great :-) And sorry for the off-topic guys

Don't forget that even Episodes II & III featured R2 with rockets on his sides.  Not that I'm defending it, haha.  But the cartoons always adopt the more extravagant features to appeal to the younger crowds.

It goes to show how limited George's writing became, that he wrote himself into a corner, and the only way to get out was to give R2 rockets.

Everything else about this "Chopper" droid however seems pretty interesting, and a little humorous as well.
