Ray bradbury died today, and I just wanted to mention that he is one on my favorite scifi authors. The first thing of his I ever read was "The Illustrated Man" and I have loved his writing ever since.

Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles is one of my favourite sci-fi novels; I was thoroughly impressed by its scope and the way it explored the issues surrounding colonization and cultural eradication. The episodic nature in which it is written reminds me very much of Asimov's I, Robot.
Whenever I'm asked which authors make for a good introduction to the sci-fi genre, I always say to start with the "A, B, Cs": Asimov, Bradbury, and Clarke.
I'm glad to see he left such a rich legacy behind... makes me think I really should get around to reading Fahrenheit 451 one of these days.

Kind of weird, the man has been on my mind today then I discover this sad new. I have had the song F*ck Me Ray Bradbury stuck in my head all morning, and had a few minute discussion with a friend trying to convince him to read Fahrenheit 451, both prior to hearing this news.
I am pretty bummed. Another one of the few living writers I love gone.
:(
"The Veldt" was always my favourite of his. F451 and Martian Chronicles are good too. I really liked "A Sound of Thunder" as well.
IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM
"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.
I still have The Golden Apples Of The Sun from a jumble sale when I was around 7 or 8 years old.
The Pedestrian and The Flying Machine are two my favorite stories.
I haven't read much of his stuff, but I did like what I read.
R.I.P.
Now Michael Moore can plaigerize Bradbury titles with impunity instead of resorting to racial/sexist stereotypes. Yay!
That said, I mean no disrespect. I've only read Farenheit 451, but it was one of my first exposures to the Golden Age of Sci-Fi, and it was a good read. Vaya con Dios!
Though I've never read a great many of his works, a true visionary. Truly sad news. RIP.

Did anyone else catch Stephen Colberts tribute to Ray at the end of last nights show? Very nice and funny. Here's a link with the vid:

I found the shot of the book hitting the video screen fireplace to be very appropriate.
