Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man it certainly ain’t, but if you love unsanctioned comic book crossovers with loads of absurdity, this is definitely for you.

Picked this up not too long ago and enjoyed it a lot.

Crisis on Infinite Earths #1-7
Finally reading this monster. Reached the point where Supergirl dies and figured that’d be enough for one night.
So far, it’s big, insane, and strangely fun for a story about the end of everything.
.
I used to have moderate admiration for Crisis on Infinite Earths. Then I came to realize the very premise was stupid garbage and that the example it set has all but led to the ruination of mainstream superhero comics.
The only good thing to come out of Crisis was the post-Crisis Superman.

¯_(ツ)_/¯ I liked it. Perhaps I’m biased since I grew up on comics from the late 90s and 00s. Granted, those were mostly Superman books, so you may ne right about him being the only good thing from that era.
Anyway, finished the last part of the story today and actually think the latter half of the series is better than the earlier issues.
Side note: only two comics that I got when I was little have stayed with me, the rest were either torn up by younger me or just lost. If only I’d have cared for them then. Makes me sad thinking about.

It’s not that I think anything non-Superman-related stuff from that period is bad; it’s that I think Crisis was absolutely unnecessary.
Instead of destroying the DC Multiverse/crushing it down into a single DC Universe – killing/erasing/re-writing the histories of characters needlessly – the writers could’ve started focusing on a new streamlined Earth in the multiverse. That way they could’ve easily told all the same stories that came out post-Crisis while avoiding most of the negative fan backlash and continuity issues that followed.

I suppose you’re right. Hell, they still didn’t even end the multiverse really, since Elseworlds stories like TDKR were still being told after it.

Batman Year One: Issue #1
I absolutely loved this first issue of the Year One run on Batman. It’s basically my first comic and I thought it was very interesting in how it differed from “Batman Begins”. Gordon in Year One is better than he is in Begins. I kinda missed Bruce’s training while he was gone in Year One but nevertheless was deeply satisfied with how he became Batman. Him finally deciding to ring the bell and become the Batman was golden. A couple memorable lines come to mind already (not perfectly accurate):
“Thanks Flass. You’ve shown me what it takes to be a cop in Gotham city.”
“I should’ve taken the train…I should see the enemy.”
Overall, I’m really enjoying it so far and look forward to continuing the Year One TPB.
I bought a copy of this issue way back when, but I lost it somewhere along the line. Came across another copy recently and didn’t hesitate to snatch it up.
Storywise, there’s no much going on; it’s the second part of a multi-issue storyline, and a pretty meh storyline to boot*. I enjoy it simply for the kickass Mark Bagley art and the nostalgia that goes with it (This comic was my introduction to Venom, who remains my favourite supervillain to this date.).
*JFTR, I don’t own the other issues.
Doctor Who: The Third Doctor #1-2
Absolutely loving this mini-series. With fantastic art and pitch perfect dialogue, it encapsulates everything that is great about the Third Doctor’s era.
I have #2 of the Fourth Doctor’s miniseries, the rest are on my ever-expanding list of issues to hunt down/eventually order online.

You don’t have a local comic shop? Personally, I’ve moved to all digital collecting. It’s super convenient, if you want a comic you can get it in seconds. Also, panel view is addicting and you save so much physical space not having to store stacks of books. Comixology is the best.
No, nearest shop’s an hour drive away and I never have time to go. I love the satisfaction of owning the physical media, but I may have to switch to digital soon for convenience.

I just read the last comic.
It was a bit disappointing and I can see why they didn’t bother continuing the art form.
Still a long innings.
Well done comic books, thanks for the memories.
Tomorrow is a fast day so I shall eat all the pies the day before yesterday.
Time travel is weird.
Very interesting and much better then the Gold Key series. The oversized book and reproductions are beautiful.

Does the art inside match the art on the cover? That looks really nice.
Looks like something I should check out. The Captain looks strange in red though.
Yes, the art is amazing.

I read the next two issues of Batman Year One and am now onto the final issue and so far have LOVED it! I wanted to revisit comics and when I read the highly recommended Civil War, I was thoroughly dissapointed but this comic book so far has been masterful. The art is sooooooooo good. Mazzuchelli has such a unique style. And Miller writes Batman so well.
I also read the first issue of Dark Knight Returns and it has the same story/writing strengths of Year One but the art is confusing and feels very rushed and messy. It’s sufficient and the cold color palette is fine but it can be very confusing. But the panels Miller takes time on are beautiful, and there are so many good lines 😃 I must say that I like Year One more so far, but I have already read 3/4 of Year One and I’m only a fourth into Returns.
Miller writes Batman so well.
You’ll eat those words eventually.
Miller writes Batman so well.
What are you, dense?

No idea there was a UK Trek comic. That looks really good, and they nailed the actor’s likenesses. Why was the Gold Key comic even inflicted on us poor kids in the states? 😉
Where were you in '77?
Just finished Year One. Damnnnnnnnnnnn, that was hella good! I abosutely loved it. Nailed the batman character and Gordon is such a bad ass in this. I think I’m gonna read The Man who laughs next (digitally) then order the TPB f The Long Halloween cause my Year One TPB is excellent quality.
Hella good?
