OOT release not in anyone's plans...

I don’t really see the part where he says “and also there will never be a restoration of the OOT by Lucasfilm.”

You’re right, he didn’t. But the doctor didn’t suggest that, only that hidalgo said it’s not in the works, which he did.

I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

“The 2011 versions are the distribution versions from now on, I would figure.”

Yuck.

Which needed a whole thread?

Clearly you’ve missed the point of that off-topic thread.

There was nothing earth shattering that begged it to be started.

I feel like accepting every answer Hidalgo gives on this kind of thing as gospel truth is kind of like that myth that an undercover police officer has to tell you he’s a cop if you ask. He’s under no oath to tell the whole truth at all times. If someone asks for information that Disney doesn’t want out there yet, of course he’s going to lie, just like he’d never confirm it if someone actually guessed what’s up with Snoke. That’s certainly not to say we should always assume the opposite of whatever he says is true or anything like that, but I’m taking it with a grain of salt.

Well, I think he would have been less casual about it, if something was in the works. He could have said, that he can’t discuss what’s in store for the 40th anniversary or something along those lines. So, I’m inclined to believe it. They might be working on 3D releases for the 40th anniversary, but an OOT release seems unlikely, unless mikev can work miracles…

As opposed to one of his covertly pessimistic posts?  ; )

I don’t think it’s really his department, he didn’t know the movies were going to TNT and that’s happening in 3 days. If Kathleen Kennedy says it, then it’s time to be sad.

If they will ever start working on the restoration, they will let the public know well before the release date in order to hype it up and maximise the promotion time. Anyone who hopes for a surprise release, should stop being covertly optimistic.

I doubt they’d announce anything before Rogue One is out. They’ve been pretty consistent about promoting one thing at a time.

I not saying they would do active promotion after announcement. I am saying that if they start working on it, there will be an announcement for sure.

I doubt it. These things take time, and they generally don’t announce anything like this until around 6 months before release, when all the work is practically done. The 2004 DVDs were announced in February and released in November, and those likely started being worked on in late 2002 or early 2003.

Whereas the GOUT should have been released in Smarch.

One thing I find slightly encouraging is how Rogue One doesn’t strike me as something that Disney will be able to blatantly double-dip on later in the year like they are with TFA.

That empty space later in the year could easily be filled by a restored OOT release, and it just happens to be the 40th anniversary.

If I’m not mistaken this year the soundtrack of a new hope has been restored from the 1977 orginal lp master, but this seems poor for the 40th anniversary

Restoring the OOT should be the most important non-political issue right now. But unfortunately, releasing the OOT has become so low in everyone’s priority that should it happen, the laws of physics might fall apart.
