Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1 — Page 127

Hey I’m not saying it’s bad, I’m just saying today’s audiences wouldn’t accept a teaser that was just a slideshow of new images. Crazy how times have changed.

I don’t think my scale was about how bad something is (except for Ghostbusters (2016)), but about where it falls in acceptability. Heck, you could even say it is a scale of assness, that is a trailer of production stills would be less than half-assed, having nothing new at all would be far less than half-assed… though that would put a great trailer at full ass… so maybe swap that around… production stills are more than half-assed and Ghostbusters (2016) is full ass.

I can’t believe I just read all of that. LOL!

Since this is the thread getting the most attention lately…

I have some questions regarding how to turn the MKV files into Blu-ray Discs, as well as the artwork for putting in Blu-ray cases and perhaps the creation of the awesome box sets I’ve seen.

Please reply privately if you don’t mind. Thanks!

I think a few responses as opposed to PM’s wouldn’t be too bad, new users or those with the same questions could use the info. I don’t think a small handful of responses would clutter Harmy’s thread too much as long as it was kept within reason.

To convert the mkv files into a BD disc I’d recommend tsMuxer. Be mindful when installing and do not allow it to install any extra garbage. You can get it here. Once tsMuxer is running simply click add and pop in your MKV, and then select the output to be Blu-Ray Iso.

Then you’ll need to DL ImgBurn. Again, it tries to DL shit and horseanus onto your PC if you allow it. Be mindful when installing and go for the most complex install option, and disable the fluff. Run it, choose “Write Image File To Disc”, pop in the iso you just made - and you’re good to go.

As to the artwork, I print using a program called UnderCoverXP. You can PM me if you want to know my template sizes but I won’t go into detail because it would only benefit those that had my specific printer, so unless on the off-chance you have the same model printer I do it wouldn’t help you - that’s what I’ve tuned my templates for. You’ll have to do the same for your printer. As to the awesome box sets, I too am in awe of them. It’s a level of creativity beyond my simple ass.

Thanks for the info! It all came back to me once you mentioned tsMuxer. When I upgraded to Windows 10, it got lost in translation. My ImgBurn is still with me and ready for the task. I don’t have a printer, or access to one, so I am trying to see if I can at least get the three covers and maybe some labels printed and sent to me, if anyone is up to it. I’ll probably end up with just 3 blue snap cases and call it a day. Especially when it comes to those boxes, people aren’t jumping at the chance to make more of them. Can’t blame them for that.

I tried to tell the Enumclaw Police Department that’s where those photos came from, but they didn’t believe me.

I had mine printed at Office Depot. They say they can’t print copyrighted images, but I simply told them that it was custom artwork (which is sort of a half-truth lol) and they printed it for me.

Do you guys know if the 50GB version of Harmy’s DE will work on an Xbox One? This is the version with menus and all the extras. I can’t seem to get an answer regarding the Xbox One.

Xbox One doesn’t read BD-R. Muxed as an MKV it should work if the audio track is compatible (I don’t have an Xbox One, but that’s my understanding).

Is this a common trait in other blu-ray players?

(I recall that in the early days of DVDs, not all players could read a DVD-RW.)

Nope, an intentional “feature”.

So burned with ISO, it won’t play in X One?

No Xbox one intentionally disabled bdr support.

It only just occurred to me: would that mean it couldn’t play MoD bd’s like the ones from Warner Archive?

What can I say? All this heavy-handed content control crap hurts honest users far more than it deters or even inconveniences determined pirates, which causes a vicious circle in which honest users circumvent “protections” they wouldn’t otherwise breach to view their legally obtained content… or, alternatively, just give up entirely and still negatively affect future “sales” by choosing not to purchase what they otherwise would have, to avoid getting burned again (these “lost sales” generally still being attributed to piracy in most figures, rather than admitting it is attrition due to sustained negligence on the part of the content producers).

There is no “catch all” for piracy that doesn’t affect legitimate legal use cases, so really, there are some distribution levels that should just keep their noses out of the whole squabble, video game consoles that also play movies particularly shouldn’t butt in with their own judgement of you, on top of everything. Do one thing and do it well; how hard is that?

Really, though, I wouldn’t be surprised if completely not supporting burned discs is just one more hurdle they’ve put in to keep pirated games from ever being played, more so than suppressing illicit video content. It is still overreaching DRM regardless of intent, as there’s obvious collateral damage like what you mentioned.

I hadn’t considered the pirated game discs factor. That would at least make sense, but if playing bd-r movies is yet another thing* the ps4 does that the xbone doesn’t, I’ll continue weighing my options.

The One S had piqued my interest because of the 4k UHD blu-ray factor. I’ve been wanting to get a streaming device for my downstairs tv currently not connected to anything except a “dumb” blu-ray player from eight years ago. I’d prefer to get a device that’s capable of downloading newer apps but also plays discs (yes, I know, “you’ve already got a blu-ray player, just get a roku,” but I want to “vote with my wallet” in favor of physical media while I’ve still got the option. It kills me that my highly educated cousins got a roku but never bothered upgrading to blu-ray).

I’ve got a sony smart blu-ray player for the upstairs tv that is hooked up to a cable box. It’s limited in its app assortment but it’s got the big ones (netflix, amazon, hulu, youtube, vimeo, vudu), but it doesn’t have hbo go or cbs all access, which I’ll apparently need in order to watch the new Star Trek show come January.

Adding further complication to all of this is the fact that Comcast doesn’t support hbo go on the ps3/4 but does on the xbox. To my knowledge, the app isn’t even available on any of the other UHD players on the market so far.

As far as the bd-r issue goes, I’m assuming the xbox one at least supports avchd discs. Or am I jumping to a conclusion there also? I guess I’ve still got the blu-ray players for these kind of things, and something to continue justifying the “dumb” player sitting around, but it really shouldn’t be too much to ask that these newer devices continue to do everything the older ones did, especially when it’s for stupid copy-protection reasons.

*like bitstreaming, not that I see myself getting an atmos/dts:x setup in the near future, but still.

I think it does support AVCHD. If UHD BD is a big concern for you, you could consider waiting for the PS4 Neo, which will support that and 4K output.

Yeeesh. No bitstreaming, no bd-r, no avchd. Assuming the ps4 does all of these things, waiting a few more months for the neo would make perfect sense … if it weren’t for bloody Comcast and their lockout of hbo go on sony’s systems.

Again, I guess this is what I’ve got the standalone panasonic bd player from eight years ago for. I’m not much of a video gamer anyway. I still break out the ps2 from time to time and play OG Battlefront, but that’s about it.

It looks like getting a roku for my streaming needs might be the way to go. Like I said, I hate voting with my wallet against physical media, but certain realities have taken precedence.

That’s crazy. I’m really glad I’m not in a position of having to deal with Comcast (they’d better not get chummy with Cox, ever). Have you considered just giving Comcast less money monthly by cancelling premium channels and subscribing (as needed, even) to HBO NOW, instead? Not saying it would save money (I have no idea if this would be more or less than you pay now [or whether you’d use it all year or re-up as needed]), but it would certainly be a way of voting with your wallet, as you’ve expressed a desire for. Comcast certainly deserves a loss of income on this issue more than Sony does (plus, HBO would get monetary support directly from you, rather than splitting it with Comcast). Think it over.

Maybe this has been asked before, and I apologize if it has (it’s hard to track everything in a 128 page thread), is there a version of these Harmy despecialized versions which has a menu? I’m kind of digging the pictures at the top of each of the threads here on originaltrilogy.com. I have the AVCHD versions and was able to play them on my machine. Thanks, Harmy.

One additional comment, I recently saw the original THX trailer from 1983 which ran in front of Return of the Jedi. As a suggestion, I think it would be cool to add that THX trailer to a future edition of ROTJ and recreate the theatrical experience as much as possible.
Thanks all, may the Force be with you.

Hey Harmy, I am wondering: in what way would a V 3.0 be necessary? Watching V 2.5 looks almost flawless, with all the blu-ray footage blending in perfectly with the blu-ray sources and it all flows seamlessly. The only thing that sticks out for me is the Brother and Sister scene which doesn’t look right compared to the rest of the movie and should definitely be replaced with 35mm footage. Not that I’m against a V 3.0 but unless we’re talking about a complete overhaul in terms of colour, contrast and brightness like what Neverar is doing with Star Wars I don’t see much of a point.

Well, Neverar’s color work is going to be the starting point for the color in 3.0, so…

Anyway, the main point of 3.0 is for 1080p. SW and ESB will also still have a good deal of GOUT left in their pre-3.0 versions that will be removed.

What do you mean about the brother and sister scene? On the bridge? I don’t really remember how that one looked, but I am curious what will a 35mm source offer that scene.
