Ric Olié is still cooler than Ur-Wedge.
“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”
^ You’re a bit late.
Still funny though.

I still want Frink to do that in his next edit.
Where were you in '77?
Damn you, I was saving that one for later.
This made me giggle
I still want to see an Unspecialized Edition of the PT just to watch this in motion.
There’s some footage in one of the Episode 1 documentaries.
I thought he was all CG. I am gonna have to watch Ep1 again.
Anyone know if the same guy plays JarJar in ep 2 and 3?
Just to save you from watching TPM again, he was fully-digital, but what they did was a lot of early motion capture work and, like early versions of WIP Threepio, initially tested the suit with an actor inside before deciding on a fully digital performance.
Ahmed Best did the voice for all three films. Not sure about mocap for II and III though.

Oh ok. I bet it woulda been alot better if they did a actor/CG hybrid tho. They’d only have to CG his neck and lips and make him blink once in a while.
Yeah, I think at the time being able to match that stuff up convincingly was much more difficult than it is now, which is why they decided to go with fully-digital.
To be fair, as much as I love practical effects and puppets, the Creepy Puppet Yoda in The Phantom Menace looked awful so I’m not sure they could have pulled it off.

Yeah, all CG Yoda in 2 and 3 loooked great. The puppet in V and VI looks terrible too. I wish one of the special editions CG’d him like that one teaser clip they showed sometime ago.

Welp, you just signed your own death warrant there. Sorry man.
EDIT: Just because I rarely get the chance to ask this kind of thing and before the rest of the forum descends upon you and destroys you… how old are you (you don’t have to answer if you’re not comfortable with it) and which films did you grow up with? And why do you feel like the Yoda puppet in the Original Trilogy looks bad? I think you’re unequivocally wrong, but I’d like to know why you feel the way you do.

I’m 37. I didn’t see Episodes IV-VI until I was around 18 that I can recall. I saw the Special editions then. I didn’t see them again until I saw Episode 3 on dvd and then went on to watch the rest of them. Some puppets are pretty good looking like Jabba. But some of the stuff like the pigs and yoda look pretty fake. I wish GL coulda CG’d alot of the aliens, well, with a reliable CG company. I know some of the CG creatures in the later movies still look fake. Even in Episode VII.
I wish they would use the guys that did CG Arnold in Terminator IV and V. He looked pretty real.
I don’t necessarily think that OT Yoda looked bad, but the puppet they used in TPM did look like shit to me. AotC Yoda looked janky to me, but RotS and the redone CG one for TPM looked good.
ILM did the effects for both films, actually.
I actually like the look of the puppets and whatnot. They add a lot of charm for me, even if they were limited in function, the realism of a practical prop just feels more real to me than any CGI could, even to me. A decent puppet looks more real to me than a great CGI effect, is what I’m trying to say, I guess.
Either way, interesting viewpoint.

I far prefer Creepy Puppet Yoda, creepy as he is, to the wrinkly abomination that is CGI Yoda.

I agree that he presents better as a puppet than as CGI, but the puppet itself could have been much better.

RO hasn’t even come out, and fans have already started preparing VHS versions of it.
