(SPOILERZ)

First off, there was no sex scene. Batman and Batgirl kiss and you could infer they had sex, but we don’t see that. I personally didn’t care about that scene, caused no controversy in my universe. But I do agree Batgirl’s segment is way too long. I understand why they beefed her up so much, to give her Killing Joke scene more gravitas, but I was expecting a 10-minute prologue, not 40% of the runtime.

All that being said, it kicked so much ass and Hamill solidifies his place at the top as The Best Joker.

It’s hard to avoid spoilers when the actual spoiler is a line below your spoiler warning lol

The first sentence in his paragraph isn’t some grand spoiler that’ll no doubt ruin it for someone. If you’re so OCD about reading everything on the page before you scroll past a paragraph that clearly says SPOILERZ in front of it, that’s the readers problem. No matter how many dots are put between, the reader still has to choose to either scroll past or read the paragraph.

For some it would. Stop projecting.

Since the SPOILERZ and the spoiler are so close together there’s a chance that someone’s eye will fixate on the actual spoiler before the spoiler warning. It happens dude. At least with the dots they have a chance to steer clear.

I would definitely prefer a proper spoiler hiding tool. I like the new design of the website but looks are no substitution for functionality

I wouldn’t believe it if someone said their experience in the film was ruined because they knew beforehand that there isn’t a scene where they get to see two animated characters do it. This is a Batman movie. I don’t think anyone wants to watch cartoons do it in a Batman movie, let alone be heartbroken if they don’t get to see it.

It has been like 3 years since I read The Killing Joke but I don’t remember Batman and you know who kissing so assuming that is something that didn’t happen in the original Graphic Novel that’s a huge thing. That can definitely have an effect on someone’s viewing experience. Especially someone who is into Batman more than you and I.

I said first sentence. Not first line. I guess we’ve been discussing two separate pieces of spoilage.

All this was already hinted at throughout the Batman Beyond series anyway.
It seems a bit weird but I don’t mind it all that much I guess. Maybe because I’m a huge Babs fan.

That was the one part of the DC Animated Timm-verse that I never truly bought actually. From a recent interview at Comic Con, it seems that Bruce Timm really does think the relationship is inherently romantic, citing how it was played off in the Adam West show. But, I never really read Batgirl that way.

To me, Batgirl always seemed part of the second generation of Gotham crimefighters, which makes her and Robin the obvious (and much more tasteful) pairing. Batman, as the original Gotham crimefighter, should be the only first generation father figure, raising the so-called “Bat Family” to succeed him. Even in the last season of Batman: TAS, Timm tried to make Batgirl into a “mother” figure.

I far prefer the notion of either a Batman-Wonder Woman or a Batman-Catwoman relationship. The latter particularly is interesting because of how Catwoman is probably less crazy than Batman is. She could potentially help his mental health, while he helps reform her criminal behavior.

Then, of course, there is the gender politics, which is less of an issue to me personally, but one with which I can sympathize. The original comic was already derided in some circles for its callousness towards harming Batgirl, but the adaptation (shockingly) seems to worsen the situation, essentially reductively defining Batgirl as a woman, to be sexually desired not only by Batman and the randomly added gangster fellow in the first 20 minutes but also the Joker.

Batgirl actually explicitly states to Batman over the phone: “It was just sex, for god’s sake!” So, no inference required for better or worse.

The Batman-Catwoman relationship was beautifully handled in the Hush storyline and is one of the great romantic allusions in comics IMO. Wonder Woman would also make a good foil for Brucie if he were so inclined, which I don’t really think Batman goes for much outside the crusade.

I had no idea they had literally done that and made it so blatant with a line like that. What in the world…that actually does make me a bit testy.
I agree I never bought Bruce and Babs being romantically involved either and it doesn’t fit. But jeez did they really have to hammer it in there like that? Now I see why there have been so many stories over the new DCAU release.
Poor Dick Grayson never wins does he? 😉 (they never let them have a happy resolution)

I’ve never been a fan of how TKJ just destroyed the character and then DC just went with it. But finally we got the wonderful Oracle out of it. And of course they or anyone else would never let you make a good drama like that. (Though I’d love to do it.)

Sounds like they lost the great overall meaning of TKJ in this adaptation by focusing on too many other things to pad the running time.

But we really have come a long way from the subtlety of Bruce’s relationship in MOTP haven’t we?

I still don’t know why some think TDKR is a bad film. It was disappointing for sure but it was pretty well made.

Suicide Squad only has a Bat-cameo though, yes? I haven’t seen it and I’m not going to.

How in the fuck!? Suicide Squad better than TDKR!?! BvS…Hell No! Batman 66??? Joel Schumacher shit above TDKR???

I know it didn’t live up to the insanely (almost unbeatable) bar that “The Dark Knight” set but IMO it’s a far superior film than what you paint it out to be.

I thought it was as good as the Dark Knight.

I agree entirely! Though it’s the worst of the trilogy IMO I still think it’s a very good movie.

Have you seen the “Dark Knight Saga Recut, The - Part III” fanedit? It makes the film so much better. That fan edit is better than the theatrical version and Batman Begins in my opinion.

For me it’s on par with Batman Begins but nowhere near The Dark Knight just like Return of The Jedi is nowhere near The Empire Strikes Back or how The Last Crusade is nowhere near Raiders of The Lost Arc.

Having recently seen TDK and TDKR, I find them to be very overrated. The main thing that irks me is all the talking and exposition. I feel like Christopher Nolan takes the audience for idiots so he as to spell out everything just to make sure it’s shoved down our throats whatever message he’s trying to give.

Also, it tries to balance between realism and fantasy and it often falters. For all the talk about a ‘realistic’ Batman movie the fans talk about, the plot hinges on microwave bombs, planes without wings and radar vision from hacked cell phones. And don’t get me started on that moment when Batman jumps out of a window, grabs Maggie Gyllenhaal and they land on a car with hardly a scratch…

They’re not terrible films, but I don’t understand how fans will point out all the minute plot issues with BvS and give these films a pass.
