I just found out about the Edrio “Two Tubes” costume today and I’m pretty sure that it draws some inspiration from the hand design on Daft Punk’s robot costumes. Here is my crappy comparison pic: http://i.imgur.com/eTYsr6k.jpg

(I am on mobile and still trying to master image posting)

Interesting, so the U-Wing is like a troop transport.

Rian Johnson on the set of Rogue One.

There’s also this new picture, but it’s not particularly interesting, well, unless a minor addition to uniforms get’s you exited (apparently trenchcoats was newsworthy for someone); https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CoftzhNVIAAm4by.jpg

Nice.

I think that that second picture is really interesting, actually. In fact, I love it. It just screams “Star Wars” to me. It’s like an old McQuarrie concept, almost, and it just feels right.

I think what’s really exciting about that picture is the fact that they’re standing in front of a set complete enough that greenscreen isn’t anywhere in sight.

Yavin IV looks so damn nice.

I never thought they would have that many ships out in the open at any given time, lest a probe droid or other hostiles pass overhead and spot them.

Good point. Maybe they were doing an exercise or just came off a mission?

Or maybe the revolution will not be competent.

Apparently the wings sweep back. It no longer resembles a U, but a Y. Maybe they should have called it the “Why Wing”

With the wings deployed, it kind of gets a Spaceballs vibe. 😉

The designs are hit and miss for me.

The A-Wng and B-Wing and X-wing and Y-wing look nothing like each other but they look like they belong in the same galaxy. The U-Wing fuselage looks like a kit bash of a Y-Wing, X-Wing and Snow Speeder. Pick a letter, slap wings on it in the shape of that letter and viola…a new fighter is born. That seems lazy to me.

I dont know why there are now tanks. Arent the AT-STs and AT-ATs the Star Wars version of tanks? They fill the same tactical role.

I like the various new troopers and the blaster designs. Those are fantastic.

It’s entirely possible in universe that this is something Rebel techs have Frankensteined together out of wrecked ships to fit a specific mission profile.

Even the so called Snowspeeders were never originally made for cold climates. Remember the rebel who told Han they were having trouble adapting them to the cold?

It is kind of sad that in TFA, where they should have come up new stuff, they used TIE vs X-wings, while in R1, where they should stick to what we see in ANH, they are making up new stuff.

Anyway, U-Wing long front-facing wings look ridiculous and useless. A very bad design.

I agree. I wonder what the in universe explanation is for there being never before seen technology and Death Troopers in RO.

Well if the U-wing is more of a transport than a fighter, it’d make sense that it doesn’t appear in any battles. Then again it doesn’t look like a transport so who knows.

From what they said on The Star Wars Show, it’s more of a fighter/gunship/transport (kinda in the style of the Republic Gunship, I guess). So it can probably only hold a squad or two in the bottom part.

It’s been growing on me. Still not my favorite design.
